Introduction
I am Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Grenoble Alpes, France. I hold two PhDs, one in economics earned from the University of Grenoble, France and the other in sociology obtained at the University of Geneva (Switzerland) and at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (Paris, France). In my research, I study monetary economics (particularly related to the Swiss case), the political economy of gender and the history of economy thought during the Progressive Era.

As a result of the current financial crisis, economists have paid increased attention to local monies designed in an effort to create a new kind of economy, as well as new ways to develop social links. This paper seeks to shed light on the WIR money, a local money that has been in existence in Switzerland since the 1930s. We argue that it provides...

This paper sheds light on Albion Small’s views on the inequalities resulting from capital concentration. As a leading intellectual of the Progressive Era, Small sought ways to reduce social injustice, which in his view was key to avoiding class conflict and preserving democracy. He emphasized the need to devise social policies with a view to ensuri...

Regulation theory (RT) first broke through in France forty years ago. Rejecting neo-classical axioms, it borrowed from Marxian, Keynesian and especially Institutional economics, without making any full commitment to any of them. Initially, RT aimed to provide a macroeconomic analysis of great crises, which required its advocates to embrace a wider...

The ‘Great Recession’ of 2008 exposed banks and banking systems as frail economic entities, posing a threat to the real economy and society at large. This context of near economic collapse made clear the societal responsibility of banks to conform to business ethics respectful of both individual and collective interests. We argue that banks are pri...

This paper sheds light on the neglected views of Albion W. Small, the founder of the Department of Sociology at the University of Chicago in 1892. As Small wrote during the American Progressive Era and had a background in political economy, it is natural that he was interested in Marx’s ideas. In this paper we explain why we affiliate Small to some...

Industrial economics cannot be solely based on market prices, as this could lead to incorrect academic results and policy recommendations because the prices could provide distorted signals and thus diverge from socially efficient prices. To understand this fundamental principle of price formation in industrial economics, it is necessary to better i...

This paper deals with the neglected issue of central banks’ social responsibility. Since central banks exert the “structural power” on economies as well as on societies, their power should be regulated and controlled by society through a reliable framework of social responsibility. To that aim, this article sheds light on the ‘why’ and the ‘how’ of...

Since the start of the Global Financial Crisis in 2008, research on central banking has gained momentum due to unusual levels of central bank activism and unconventional monetary policy measures in many countries.

This article sheds light on the gendered economics of bodybuilding, a topic that, to my knowledge, has not previously been studied. First displaying its history, it examines how the economy of such a sport was born, focusing on the principles and values of capitalism and then creating the ‘bodybuilding’s industry’. In particular, the article stress...

Cadre de la recherche : Le bodybuilding est un sport extrême, au sens où il repose sur l’idée de transformation permanente du corps, et où dans certains cas, il peut engager « tout » l’individu.
