Introduction
I am a researcher and associate professor in IS/IT domain. I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science and Informatics from the University of Maribor in 2008. I like to combine business and IT, especially via processes. I like dynamics and visuals, so (process) diagrams are one of my focal research interests.

Business process models are essential for organizations, enabling participants to understand the business processes in which they are involved. These models are mainly designed using process modeling tools, supporting Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) 2.0, which is widely accepted by the community. However, representation of modeling probl...

Numerous visual notations are present in technical and business domains. Notations have to be cognitively effective to ease the planning, documentation, and communication of the domains’ concepts. Semantic transparency (ST) is one of the elementary principles that influence notations’ cognitive effectiveness. However, the principle is criticized fo...

Process landscape diagrams represent the umbrella part of a process architecture by defining the scope and relationships between an organization’s business processes. They are fostering awareness and process-related communication by leveraging the benefits of visual notations. However, in contrast to business process diagrams, where nowadays BPMN p...

The integration process of Ukraine into the European Union requires fundamental changes in economic, social, and environmental spheres. The provision for any significant changes should be based on a deep investigation. Corporate Social Responsibility is regarded nowadays as a critical factor for the change management process in economic, social, an...
Conference Paper
Process landscapes define the scope and relationships between an organization’s business processes and are therefore essential for their management. However, in contrast to business process diagrams, where nowadays BPMN prevails, process landscape diagrams lack standardization, which results in numerous process landscape designs. Accordingly, our g...

Business process diagrams represent an essential part of business process management activities, including process analysis, process-related communication, and process automation. While the majority of these artifacts are produced with modeling tools, there are still cases where hand-drawn diagrams are created, especially in the initial phases of p...
Chapter
Business Process Diagrams serve several purposes, including process analysis, process-related communication, and process automation. Considering communication, modelers must ensure that all participants understand a process diagram and the corresponding notation in the same way. With globalization, this might get challenging, since different cultur...

The main purpose of business process diagrams is to make the communication between process-related stakeholders more effective. To this end, they need to be simple to read, which is often challenging to achieve. In this manner, the complexity of business process diagrams can negatively affect their correctness and understandability. The goal of thi...

Context Business processes are an important asset of every organisation and can be divided into a group of structured processes (i.e. procedural) and loosely structured ones (i.e. declarative). A good example of procedural notations is Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN), a technologically accepted Standard, used by many organisations. A rep...

Communications essentially affect corporate success, which highlights the need for their standardized modeling and management. However, while systems and software have standardized languages for their visual representations, communications lack them. Accordingly, the main objective of our efforts was to define a visual language for the modeling of...
Chapter
Various authors have defined an extensive set of measures regarding the complexity of process design, which can be objectively measured by using structural complexity metrics. Nevertheless, the research in this area indicates that the percentage of empirically and theoretically validated metrics is relatively small. This suggests that there are sti...

To ensure a certain degree of usability, a library website should be carefully designed, especially since end users constitute a multitude of people with different needs and demands. The focal objective of this research was to investigate how different types of end users (i.e. pupils, students, the working population, seniors and researchers) respo...
Article
In order to facilitate the communication between the stakeholders, business process diagrams must be easy to understand. This is challenging to achieve, since they can become large and complex. In our previous work, we proposed Opacity-Driven Graphical Highlights, a novel approach for increasing the cognitive effectiveness of business process diagr...

Context: One of the focal purposes of using 'visual' process models (i.e. process diagrams) is to ensure easier, universally understood and unambiguous diagrammatic communication. Thus the models should be easy to comprehend and maintain, which is directly related to their complexity. In order to systematically address process models complexity, it...
Conference Paper
The purpose of business process diagrams is mainly to make the communication between process-related stakeholders more effective. Currently, BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation) is the leader and de-facto standard for business process modeling. However, the notation and their corresponding diagrams have been perceived as complex by many diffe...
Article
Context: Business process modeling is an activity that includes several different roles, e.g. business analysts, technical analysts and software developers. The resulting process diagrams can be either simple or complex. Nonetheless, they must be understandable to everyone, even those without the necessary knowledge of process modeling notations. O...

Successful modeling tools need to effectively support individual as well as team-based work (collaboration) within colocated and virtual environments. In the past, achieving this has been challenging, since traditional modeling tools are desktop-based and thus suitable for individual and colocated work only. However, with the rise of web-based arch...
