Introduction
My PhD project has the objective to inspect the critical issues of interactive multimedia technologies and applications over the Internet. The objective is to try to mitigate or even solve these issues with the support of new protocols and architectures.
Moreover, other fields of research that I'm exploring are the assistive technologies for older adults and the accessibility of the web.

This paper investigates one of the main game streaming services, the Steam In-Home Streaming, to analyze the generated network traffic. Gathered data can be used to model this type of traffic in simulations and to determine whether it could be supported by Internet connections around the world.
Digital games represent one of the most compelling fields in computer science, embodying a wide variety of technical challenges. Thanks to the evolution of streaming and broadband technology, new service provisioning schemes have emerged. Remote play streaming services represent an interesting case study deserving a thorough investigation. To this...
Wearable technology is no longer science fiction. Thanks to the growing capability in the production chain to miniaturize complex electronics, a wide variety of gadgets that can be worn or included in dresses and accessories have emerged. These smart gadgets can collect data about the physical condition of the user and/or the environment providing...
Population aging is considered to be one of the most significant social transformations of the twenty-first century. In this paper, we evaluate the acceptability and usability of a system designed to silently monitor the activity and condition of older adults, with a particular focus on the elderly affected by cognitive decline. The system is compo...
Immersive technology is expected to become a key player in the next wave of consumer electronics with potential applications spanning a wide variety of sectors. Yet, there are a number of technological hurdles which need to be addressed. Without speed and computation capability, interactivity cannot be ensured. More than often the constrained natur...
Is the World Wide Web for everyone? Long story short: no and unfortunately it is not only a matter of infrastructures, level of instruction or economic conditions. People affected by visual impairments have often difficulties in navigating web pages for a wide range of reasons. One of the biggest obstacles nowadays is the use of CAPTCHAs, powerful...
The fruition of multimedia contents has been revolutionized by the spread of broadband technology. Furthermore, the advent of the cloud is now moving the computational load, once prerogative of domestic devices, to remote servers. This is bringing achievements that were unthinkable only few years ago, like the provisioning of new multimedia service...
The advent of broadband technology has revolutionized the fruition of multimedia contents. Moreover, the cloud is now moving the computational load from domestic devices to remote servers, enabling the provisioning of new multimedia services through the Internet. To provide a proper user experience, a low E2E latency and a high bandwidth are both r...
In the era of 4.0 industry, artificial intelligence and machine learning are the undisputed protagonists on a world-wide stage. In the last decade, expert and learning systems have been widely applied to a plethora of tasks that were considered, in the past, as solvable only by a human. And on top of that, machines are becoming more reliable and ac...
Population aging is a global phenomenon. It is also enduring: we will not return to the young populations that our ancestors knew. It is hence crucial to use any possible means, including sensing technology, to improve the quality of life of older adults, as well as their relatives and caregivers. In this paper, we study acceptability and usability...
Wearable devices are constantly expanding in number and functionalities within both the IT market and the fashion market. Smart watches have become very popular and have moved from a tool only showing information related to the smartphone to a device able to monitor and display a vast plethora of data, including data related to the owner's health (...
In our work we analyze the network traffic generated by a small low-cost quadcopter. In particular, we consider the IEEE 802.11n protocol focusing on the live video streaming communication between the UAV and its controller in different outdoor scenarios. First we describe the network protocols of the drone and the testing methodology, then we anal...
One of the most profitable and emerging high-tech markets is the one that involves games for PC and consoles; a market that is growing year by year and that is rapidly evolving. Several big game corporations are implementing now the remote video streaming through the domestic network between two devices; a feature that regards not only PCs but also...
