Despite its undisputed position as the biggest social media platform, Facebook has never entered the main stage of altmetrics research. We...

There are some seemingly arbitrary decisions about what metrics are derived from each platform— all retweets on Twitter count, but re-shares on Facebook only count if they are done to another public group; quote tweets, a type of reply, count, but Facebook comments never do. These choices, likely made out of convenience, limit the value we can deri...

Project
A. Use social media metrics (so-called altmetrics) to identify people and places where science is being communicated, including social media, blogs and videos. B. Survey traditional science journalists and new science communicators to understand their demographics, interests, practices, and needs. C. Develop audience analysis metrics to map the connections and interactions between science communicators of all types and to visualize the flows of knowledge among them, the scientific community, and the public. D. Connect science journalists and science communicators to catalyze new partnerships, approaches, share good practices, and help them think more critically and strategically about public communication efforts.
Project
The main aim of this survey is to map the uses of social media by professors and researchers from 4 universities, in order to understand the use frequency, reasons and the relevance to academic activity. We also want to check how participants use blogs and news outlets to get and provide scientific information.
Project
This project aims at analyzing the communication strategies adopted by Brazilian scientists as well as open access journals indexed in SciELO database, with a focus on social media, blogs and media sites. The goal is to diagnose the main challenges of using altmetrics for journals indexed in SciELO, propose improvements in order to value the social impact of science production in a national level and contribute to strengthen science communication as social impact indicator
