Project (1)
Project
The present research aims to implement a primary record for 3 of the most invasive species (IAS) of the Greek seas, Lagocephalus sceleratus (Gmelin, 1789), Pterois miles (Bennett, 1828) and Fistularia commersonii (Ruppell, 1838), as well as in the study of the management of their stocks. Furthermore, it aims to explore possible prospects for sustainable management based on protection and restoration of marine biodiversity and aiming at their most efficient economic exploitation possible. As for the last direction, it is proposed to conduct a valuation on highly commercial substances of interest to specific species, such as collagen and omega-3 omega-6 fatty acids, as well as the development of methods processing and utilizing them in the cosmetology and food industry. Highlighting new ways of exploitation, this research project aims to target specific iAS in intensive fishing, which will therefore leads to the restriction of their populations.
