There is empirical evidence in different languages on how the computation of gender morphology during psycholinguistic processing affects the construction of sex-generic representations. However, there are few experimental studies in Spanish and there is no empirical evidence that analyzes the psycholinguistic processing of morphological innovation...

Temporality and causality are central conceptual dimensions for sentence and text comprehension (Zwaan & Radvansky, 1998). This type of semantic relations can be expressed through different syntactic constructions (Engelkamp, Rummer & Konieczsy, 2003; Rummer & Engelkamp, 2002). In addition, in a previous study that tried to investigate the effect o...

There is empirical evidence in different languages on how the computation of gender morphology during psycholinguistic processing affects the conformation of sex-generic representations. However, there is no empirical evidence on the processing of non-binary morphological variants in Spanish (-x ore) in contrast to the generic masculine variant (-o...

Existe evidencia empírica en distintas lenguas sobre cómo la computación de la morfología de género durante el procesamiento psicolingüístico incide en la conformación de representaciones sexo-genéricas. Sin embargo, no existe evidencia empírica sobre el procesamiento de variantes morfológicas no binarias en español (-x o -e) en contraste con la va...

ABSTRACT The proposals of predictive processing in human cognition are not recent, although in recent years the reflection and experimental research on this mechanism have grown significantly. However, the idea that our mind / brain would be a "predictive machine" has had and still has many resistances in the field of studies on language processing...

Resumen El propósito de este trabajo es mostrar la plausibilidad de la tesis acerca de que los seres humanos pensamos en lengua natural. Lejos de suponer que esta postura implicaría un relativismo radical para el funcionamiento de la mente, argumentaremos que es posible sostener un innatismo para los mecanismos del pensamiento -sostenidos por nuest...

This paper is part of a comprehensive study on the psycholinguistic processing of causality and counter-causality in discourse. The particular aim is to analyze the articulation between the semantic and syntactic information during this process. That is, how the syntactic complexity is related to the processing complexity when readers have to under...

Resumen: Este trabajo intenta introducir algunas cuestiones en relación con el problema de la causalidad como concepto básico de la cognición humana y como relación estructurante de los discursos. Se intentará hacer un recorrido por algunos de los enfoques que tratan el psicológico, y luego se discutirán algunas cuestiones sobre la causalidad desde...

In current research on syntactic sentence processing, there is an ongoing discussion about the role of working memory in processing syntactically complex sentences that may have more than one structural representation, such as temporally ambiguous or garden path sentences. Some empirical studies argue that a decrease in working memory capacity brin...

Many research has been developed about garden path sentence processing (Waters & Caplan, 2001; Sturt, Scheepers & Pickering, 2002; Vos et al., 2001; Gordon, Hendrick & Levine, 2002; Fiebach et al., 2005). In Spanish and other languages, studies have usually worked with garden path sentences with time adverbial clauses (Meseguer, Carreiras & Clifton...

This paper studies the involvement of world knowledge and its interaction with linguistic (semantic) knowledge in the understanding of causal relations. We will attempt to determine to what extent the iconicity principle and the Continuity Hypothesis – see especially Murray (1997) – apply in Spanish and whether they are subject to restrictions attr...

The study of syntactic parsing and sentence comprehension has been focused on structurally complex phrases, such as those that are syntactically ambiguous, as a way to reveal the mechanisms put into play during parsing. The main objective of this PhD project is to deepen the study of psycholinguistic processes carried out during sentence parsing in Spanish. Particularly, we study relative clause attachment as a way to reveal the mechanisms involved in sentence parsing and to infer the analysis and segmentation strategies employed.
