Mesophotic coral ecosystems (MCEs) shelter unique communities. Coral zooxanthellae in these environments feature a low photosynthesis rate; therefore zooplankton becomes MCEs’ primary food source. These MCEs have not been studied enough due to the high cost of current assessment technologies, so these endeavours remain a challenge. The purpose of t...
Mesophotic coral ecosystems (MCE) are located between 30 and 150 m deep and shelter unique communities. However, they have been poorly studied due to the high cost of the available sampling technologies. Zooplankton are key organisms for the maintenance of the coral colonies as their primary food source because the zooxanthellae in these habitats h...
Rachycentron canadum is an economically important fish in aquaculture due to its resistance to environmental variations, the feasibility of culture in confinement, high growth rates, and good acceptance by consumers. The profitability of their cage culture is negatively affected by the difficulty of implementing monosex cultures due to the apparent...
Medium and large mammals are among the groups of species most frequently used by local communities, and at the same time, they play a fundamental role in ecosystems. In the Caribbean region of Colombia, some efforts have been made to document these uses, but there are still important gaps in the information necessary for their conservation. In this...
Mesophotic coral ecosystems (MCEs) host unique communities that have not been sufficiently studied due to the high cost of available technologies. These reefs can be found between 30 and 150 m deep, where the amount of incident light is < 10 % of that reaching the surface. The zooxanthellae associated with these reefs have a reduced photosynthetic...
