Here, we show the processes carried out and results of a diagenetic process analysis and geophysical characterization of pore types in Jurassic and Cretaceous carbonates in the TS oil field, Gulf of Mexico. In order to make predictions, we carried out a rigorous petrophysical evaluation and used borehole image interpretation, core analysis and thin...

This study investigates whether thermally induced changes from steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) operations in a heavy oil sandstone reservoir are observable using seismic methods. Thermally induced changes can include stress changes, changes in characteristics arising from shear heating of heavy oils, and changes in fluid saturation and densi...

This work presents some kinematics behaviors caused by the anisotropy in seismic responses due to the substitution of fluids in fractured porous medium. A comparative analysis of the kinematics response was carried out taking into consideration monoclinic symmetry (generated by two systems of vertical fractures forming...
In this article, we show the results obtained by the analysis performed on a heterogeneously fractured carbonate reservoir of mid cretaceous age at T-X Field, Gulf of Mexico, using three different rock physics approaches. Our motivation is to compare the robustness of three important rock physics methodologies and how the application of each of the...

This paper describes a method to obtain geotechnical attributes through empirical relations established between geotechnical parameters from field surveys and seismic inversion derived elastic moduli. Thus a quantitative rather than former qualitative approach (Sobreira et al. (2009, 2010 a, 2010 b, 2010 c) is pursued so that one can reproduce the...
sing 3C-2D seismic data in the Albacora block, Campos Basin, Brazil, we analyzed the potential of multicomponent data for density esti-mation by simultaneously inverting prestack compressional and mode-converted seismic data. Initial forward modeling using the available well logs shows that small changes in density at the reservoir level affect the...
We present an application of a singular value decomposition (SVD) filtering approach to the automatic detection of seismic horizons. The SVD filtering approach may be seen as a multichannel filtering method where each filtered seismic trace retains the coherence of the neighbouring seismic traces. The SVD filtering preserves the amplitude and phase...
We present an evaluation of the time lapse critical reflection method from the point of view of sensitivity and uncertainty analysis. The purpose of this analysis is to establish the link between changes in the p-wave velocity in the reservoir, due to fluid substitution, and the critical distance (XC), a dynamic parameter. Two static parameters of...
In this project, we link fluid flow simulation results to time-lapse seismic through rock physics and modeling. Our goal is to examine the main effects of permeability barriers on seismic response using fluid flow simulations to generate pressure and saturation fields. To explore this problem, we have carried out water and gas injection numerical e...

We link the flow simulation with seismic time-lapse through rock physics and seismic modeling. Our goal is to examine the main permeability barrier effects on seismic response using the flow simulations. To explore this problem, we have made some injection experiments, using water and gas, in a simple reservoir model. T...

A comparative analysis of the kinematics response was carried out taking into consideration different types of anisotropic symmetries associated to porous medium fractu...
We present here, a survey of the time lapse critical reflection method in terms of evaluation of sensibility in the relationship among uncertainties of some parameters and elements that has participation in the mentioned method. The objective is to know, in the presence of fluid substitution, the type and level of the relationship between the pertu...
We present an evaluation of the time lapse critical reflection method from the point of view of sensitivity and uncertainty analysis. The purpose of this analysis is to establish the link between changes in the p‐wave velocity in the reservoir, due to fluid substitution, and the critical offset xc (a dynamic parameter). Two static parameters of the...
O presente artigo apr...
Here, we discuss the sensitivity of the seismic response to uncertainties in the physical parameters of the reservoir rock. For this purpose, a probabilistic sensitivity analysis of Gassmann's fluid substitution equations using a Monte Carlo approach was carried out. We represented uncertainties related to each parameter as probability density func...
The existence of non-zero reflectivity for zero-offset PS waves in horizontally layered media is discussed. Field measurements have suggested the occurrence of this phenomenon. We show that, in some cases, if anisotropy is considered in the problem, this reflectivity can be predicted. By using an approximated formulation to determine the coefficien...
Here, we analyze two aspects related to converted-wave seismology: the conversion point problem and the zero-offset energy phenomenon. We show the anisotropy effect on the conversion point position and evaluate the error introduced in data processing due to neglecting anisotropy. We demonstrate that the location of the conversion point depends stro...
Lithology recognition is a common task found in the petroleum exploration field. Roughly speaking, it is a problem of classifying
rock types, based on core samples obtained from well drilling programs. In this paper we evaluate the performance of different
ensemble systems, specially developed for the task of lithology recognition, based on well da...
This paper investigates the advantages of methods based on Neural Network Classifier Ensembles - sets of neural networks working
in a cooperative way to achieve a consensus decision- in the solution of the lithology recognition problem, a common task
found in the petroleum exploration field. Classifier ensembles (Committees) are developed here in t...
We present a new method for modelling 2-D elastic media with the
application of the wavelet transform, which is also extended to cases
where discontinuities simulate geological faults between two different
elastic media. The basic method consists of the discretization of the
polynomial expansion for the boundary conditions of the 2-D problem

Summary The existence of non-zero reflectivity of C-wave for zero- offset in horizontally layered media is discussed herein. Field measurements have suggested the occurrence of this phenomenon. It is shown in the present work that, for some cases, if anisotropy is considered in the problem, it can be theoretically predicted. By the application of a...
The determination of the exact position of the conversion point is an important theme of converted-wave seismology. Frequently, this issue is tackled considering the rock formation as isotropic. This simplified approach may lead to significant errors due the anisotropic features of the Earth. Even for the simplest anisotropic case (VTI symmetry), t...
The determination of the parameters that guide the physical properties of rocks has become one of the most researched fields for the last two decades. Many algorithms have been proposed to relate seismic attributes to such parameters. The well known anisotropic behavior of terrestrial materials leads to the construction of mathematical relations mu...
