Introduction
Dr. Frederik Naert is the Director of Directorate 1 of the Legal Service of the Council of the EU, which inter alia deals with the internal market, competitiveness, environment, transport, telecommunications, information society and energy. He joined the Council Legal Service in 2007. Before that, he worked as a legal advisor in the Belgian Ministry of Defence (2004-2007), and as a research and teaching assistant at the KULeuven (1998-2004), where he is still an affiliated senior researcher.
