“TRANS-URBAN” focuses on generating sustainable tools for urban and spatial planning. This is addressed through the simulation of collaborative scenarios to design and assess integrated strategies on land use and transport. The proposal presents a novel and multidisciplinary approach aimed to cover the following issues: (i) Urban land use dynamics in metropolitan corridors; (ii) Integration of strategies for transport and urban land uses; (iii) collaborative scenarios as long-term instruments for sustainable planning. Since “TRANS-URBAN” combines qualitative, quantitative and design approaches, this proposal should be carried out from an inter-university environment according to the type of coordinated projects. Particularly, the proposal will be integrated by two sub-projects, based on the research topics developed by PIs over the last decade: (i) Sub-project 1 led by Dr. Francisco Aguilera Benavente and Dr. Montserrat Gómez Delgado at the University of Alcalá; (ii) Sub-project 2 led by Dr. Julio A. Soria-Lara at the Transport Research Centre -TRANSYT- at the Technical University of Madrid. The proposal is structured according to four interrelated objectives: (i) Generating of desirable and expected visions for transport and urban land uses in the longer-term (horizon: 2050); (ii) Modelling and simulating urban land uses changes according to desirable and expected visions; (iii) Designing integrated strategies for urban transport and land uses; (iv) Evaluating the future impacts of the generated scenarios. At methodological level, “TRANS-URBAN” will combine both land use modelling and collaborative approach for transport policy-making.
