While technical writing has usually a pattern, how writing a book chapter is different from writing a paper? Where should emphasis, what not focused? Any suggestions?
I found a convention to transfer a book chapter to an Article or a conference proceeding to an Article with an extension.
In that case how much similarity is accepted while writing a Journal Article from a Book Chapter or Conference paper of the same First Author?
Hello Academics, Let's find out the charm of University Teaching. From following, please mention ONLY THREE (3), that you like (enjoy or care) about university teaching.
- Classroom Lecture (Monologue), probably hour-long lecturing in front of a number of avid learners.
- Student Supervision, PhD-Level.
- Mentoring student in groups inside a classroom setting, promoting peer-to-peer learning as an instructor.
- Instructor over online teaching service (maybe as a part of a blended-learning system)
- Research as a Research-only Academic
- Research as a percentage with other teaching activities.
- Consulting-services, offering the expert option, solving industry-government problems as an academic expert.
- Attending Conference (national/international)
- Academic Administrative work (area-supervisor, school head, director, dean, provost, VC, etc.)
- Social Status
Let's say our opinion and see others. Cheers.
Just wondering to know, what is the best strategies to handle a large number of students (200+) as unit coordinator/professor in university teaching? Any pattern/strategy do you follow?
What is the best way to defend this question? Does it indicate only the number of publications in the field of research?
Under Cooperative Intelligent Transportation System technology (CITS), V2V and V2I are going to enable through DSRC/Cellular technology with OBU units on vehicle and RSU. What is the standard solution for the Vulnerable Road Users is adopted or implemented for real use?
What makes a researcher independent and how this can be practised? How to enable any such skill among PhD/Post-Doc students, or even before that stage? Please Feel Free to add your observation, arguments and experience.
Few notable comments from George Freidman of Stratfor about University Professors. These are found in his amazing book “Storm Before the Calm
— University professors have the World’s Highest-paid “part-time job”
— Teaching becomes increasingly easier over time, with little preparation needed
— For the graduate faculty, RA/TAs do all the hard work of grading and often tutoring
— An average professor writes research papers that have little to no real application. Most teaching faculty write papers for “appearance only”.
— Adjunct Faculties bridge the gap and increase productivity at a lower cost, with a little solid distinction between a tenured vs. adjunct faculty from the standpoint of the student
— This is not sustainable, and this will change in the next 10 years dramatically
Say, you have published a number of articles in different high-tire top ranked journals. Now apart from your proven research skill what other ‘transferable skills’ you can demand from this excellent work?
