In this research a comparison relating to psychopathy was made between sexual offenders and ordinary criminals in a prison in Chile. The sample consisted of 57 sexual aggressors and 82 common delinquents, all of them convicted and held at the correction facilities of the "Centro de Cumplimiento Penitenciario" in the city of Puerto Montt, Chile. The...

Psychopathy continues to be a challenge in forensic contexts, and evidence of its association with destructive behaviors, such as aggressive antisocial behaviors, is extensive. However, the potential role of intelligence as moderator of the well-established association between psychopathy and aggressive antisocial behaviors has largely been neglect...

Since 2018, the research department at the Regional Forensic Psychiatric Clinic in Växjö, Sweden, has been working to identify, develop, apply, adapt and evaluate VR-assisted interventions in forensic psychiatric care. RELEVANCE The current studies describe a new intervention for VR-assisted aggression treatment and indicate that intelligence, although important for the rehabilitation of offenders, is not necessarily relevant to understanding AAB in young offenders with psychopathic and callous unemotional traits. My doctoral dissertation will contribute to the d...

While Virtual Reality (VR) interventions can have many potential benefits for mental healthcare, implementation outcomes are often disappointing. To improve implementation outcomes, a better understanding of complex, dynamic interactions between implementation-related factors is needed.

Aggression is a known problem in individuals being cared for in forensic settings, yet the evidence base for its treatment is scarce. Virtual Reality (VR) has been proposed as a promising addition to interventions in forensic settings, as it may increase the motivation among participants, bridge the gap between real life, therapeutic and laboratory...

Sexualbrott...

We found that the effect of psychopathy on aggression was, in general, not moderated by offenders’ intelligence. That is, intelligence may not necessarily be pertinent to understand aggressive antisocial behaviors. Offenders' temperament and character, on the other hand, showed a complex relation with the different facets of psychopathy and aggress...

Little attention has been directed to the possible moderating effect of intelligence on the well-established relationship between psychopathy and aggression, even though intelligence in previous research has been linked to both. We examined if intelligence moderates the relationship between psychopathy and aggression in a nationally representative...

Background: Humans seem to have a unique ability to consciously organize the flow of time (i.e., past, present, and future) and to intentionally choose goals and values (i.e., character: self, others, the universe). These two parts of human awareness have implications for individuals’ relation to a society that will flourish or perish. In fact, a b...

Background: The Big Five traits (i.e., openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism: OCEAN) have been suggested to provide a meaningful taxonomy for studying the Dark Triad: Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy. Nevertheless, current research consists of mixed and inconsistent associations between the Dark Tria...

The directions of the arrows represent higher values. M, high Machiavellianism; m, low Machiavellianism; N, high narcissism; n, low na...

We investigated the effect of sex on associations between dark traits and time perspective. Responses by participants (N = 338) to the Short Dark Triad Inventory and Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory showed that while sex was involved in different time perspective associations of Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and narcissism, it did not moderate...

Using a non-linear approach we found that only under certain conditions was promiscuous sexual attitude and desire, not behavior, related to dark character. That is, individuals with high levels in dark traits are thinking of and whishing for promiscuous sexual relations, but they not seem to be doing it.

We investigated individual differences in Big Five traits using the Dark Cube (eight profiles created by combining high/low levels in the Dark Triad: Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy). Narcissism was associated with four of the Big Five traits under different conditions. However, the only clear relationships were narcissism-extraversio...

We investigated individual differences in how people organize the flow of time (past, present, future) using malevolent character (Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy) profiles. For each trait, the model showed the characteristics of a complex dynamic adaptive system: multi-finality (i.e., same antecedents, different outcomes) and equifin...

https://doi.org/10.1186/ISRCTN55538093 Main goal: Investigating the effect of VRAPT on the incidence and severity of aggressive behaviors in forensic psychiatric patients Secondary goals: 1. How does VRAPT affect emotion regulation abilities and strategies in forensic psychiatric patients? 2. What important influencing factors (such as presence experience in the virtual environment, psychosocial background, psychiatric characteristics including personality, occurrence of other behavioral behaviors including substance use in patients) must read about evaluation of treatment effect of VRAPT and forensic psychiatric care? 3. How is VRAPT experienced by participating patients and personal?
