Introduction
Currently my research is focused on DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis) and FDA (Functional Data Analysis). The main analysis tool that I use is R, being an active member of the R-UCA project of the Cádiz University. Now I am especially interested in applying data analysis in the fields of Quality of life and Gender Studies.

In this work, Functional Data Analysis (FDA) is used to detect behavioral patterns in the Bolsa de Valores de Colombia (BVC) in reaction to the global crises caused by COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine. The oil price fluctuation curve is considered a covariate. The FDA’s distinctive ability is to represent stock values as smooth curves that evolve ov...

Background/Objectives: The diagnostic capacity of the preoperative pelvic organ prolapse quantification (POP-Q) system to define surgical pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is sometimes limited. On the other hand, pelvic floor ultrasound can influence the surgical indication for patients with symptomatic POP. Therefore, our objective is to determine how t...

Introduction and Hypothesis The objective was to create and validate the usefulness of a convolutional neural network (CNN) for identifying different organs of the pelvic floor in the midsagittal plane via dynamic ultrasound. Methods This observational and prospective study included 110 patients. Transperineal ultrasound scans were performed by an...
Article
Objectives The changes of the extracellular matrix of the connective tissue have significantly contributed to the incidence of pelvic organ prolapse (POP). It seems reasonable that sonoelastography could be a useful tool to evaluate the elasticity of pelvic floor tissue in patients with POP and compare it to those without POP. The main aim of this...

Objective To determine if the addition of the assessment of levator ani muscle (LAM) avulsion to the measurement of the difference in the pubis‐uterine fundus distance between rest and with the Valsalva maneuver could increase the diagnostic capacity of ultrasound for uterine prolapse (UP). Methods This multicenter, observational and prospective s...

On 10 October 2011, a submarine eruption occurred in El Hierro island. Thus, the eruptive process in the Canary islands was reactivated after 40 years of inactivity. The main objective of this work is to evaluate, using Functional Data Analysis, how the surface deformation phenomenon explains the seismic–volcanic activity in the island. The GNSS-GP...

This paper demonstrates the usefulness of approaching the dynamic study of the precise positioning of a network of permanent global positioning system (GPS) stations through functional data analysis. The displacement data for each GPS station, obtained from observations of the global navigation satellite system, are a discrete sample of the positio...

In this paper, we propose a new methodology for variable selection in Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The methodology is based on an internal measure which evaluates the contribution of each variable in the calculation of the efficiency scores of DMUs. In order to apply the proposed method, an algorithm, known as “ADEA”, was developed and implemen...

Background: The aim is to know the factors related to the evolution of Health Related Quality of Life (HRQL) in Coronary Patients (CP) from a longitudinal perspective using an appropriate method that handles missing data adequately when the mechanism of missingness is uncertain. Methods: Prospective study with repeated measures at baseline, 3 an...
Article
Objective: To analyse the use of healthcare resources by chronic pain (CP) patients in Spain and their satisfaction thereof. Research design and methods: A nationwide, cross sectional study was carried out on a representative sample of 1,957 Spanish adults. A telephone survey was conducted with the aim of analysing the prevalence of CP, the char...

The Andalusian Positioning Network (RAP) is a regional GNSS permanent net-work in Southern Spain that offers a public service for precise positioning in real-time (RAP-IP). Most of the registered users are linked to the construction sector, so the collapse of the housing bubble and the Spanish economic crisis influenced the use of RAP services from...

Missing data are a common problem in clinical and epidemiological research, especially in longitudinal studies. Despite many methodological advances in recent decades, many papers on clinical trials and epidemiological studies do not report using principled statistical methods to accommodate missing data or use ineffective or inappropriate techniqu...

Why is the gender gap so large in researchers’ career progression? Do men and women have different priorities in their academic careers? This study explores men’s and women’s academic work to shed light on the strategies of male and female researchers. The online survey collected data on Andalusian researchers to determine possible differences in a...

Metabolic syndrome (MS) is widely believed to be an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). We assessed whether a model based on MS improved prediction of CVD and total mortality over the Framingham's general CVD system (FRS) and whether MS was better than its individual components. Prospective cohort study of 855 participants rando...

Objective This study aims to assess the prevalence of chronic pain, its characteristics, and its impact on the general Spanish population. Also, to establish chronic pain patient subgroups according to the characteristics of pain and to identify variables specifically associated with each subgroup.DesignTelephone-based, cross-sectional nationwide s...

In the paper “A hybridized K-means clustering approach for high dimensional dataset” Dash, Mishra, Rash and Acharya have presented a new version of the k-means algorithm. In it, principal components analysis (PCA) was used before applying the kmeans algorithm with a new initialization method. The authors compare the results obtained by using the HK...

In spite of social and political changes throughout in the last decades, its still evident the low presence of women in managerial positions. In the pursuit of contribute with the equal opportunities principle, this paper analyzes the glass ceiling in 816 SMEs of different activity areas from Andalusia. It shows that the ruling culture of labor ma...

The Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CDK-EPI) equation has been proposed as a replacement for the Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) equation to estimate the glomerular filtration rate, but this equation has not yet been evaluated in the general population. Cross-sectional analysis of a random sample of 858 participants...

In this paper we develop a procedure to solve a generalization of the Weber Problem. The goal of this problem is to locate a service facility to cover the demand of a region. This demand is modelled by a random variable with a known distribution probability. In order to solve the problem, we propose a descomposition and approximation of this distri...

To identify the predictive factors of mental disorders in patients with suspected Ischaemic Cardiopathy (IC). The patients admitted to the Cardiology Service of an University Hospital (SW Spain) for acute thoracic pain with suspected IC were studied. Patients were classified into four diagnostic groups (acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina,...

To assess the mental health of patients admitted to hospital with suspected ischaemic heart disease, by means of two instruments, the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) and the MH (1-5) dimension of the SF-36 Health Survey Questionnaire, and to compare the psychometric properties of both questionnaires in this population. A study was conducted o...
Article
This paper analyzes a new location model where attractive and repulsive demand points exist and the importance of the existing facilities is only given by the weighted distance between them and the new facility to be located. It is shown that the well-known Weber problem, as well as the Weber problem with some negative weights can be seen as a part...
