In these weeks we are finalising a project on the role of the mayors during the times of in-migration of refugees in Brandenburg. The research was done in this project: "Migration, diasporas and planning for cosmopolitan urbanity in smaller municipalities in the UK and Germany" together with Oxford University.   • While being a visiting scholar at Georg-Simmel-Centre for Metropolitan Studies at Humboldt-University I continued my research on the role of the mayors in smaller Brandenburg towns and was working on the project "Global pathways for nurses" with Laurier University (Canada) and National University of Singapore (NUS). I started consulting the German Ministry for Labour and Social Affairs on the Metropolis conference. And I wrote and published in internationally peer reviewed journals.

Damit die Bedürfnisse, die Chancen und Risiken einer urban governance von Migration und Integration mit dem Ziel einer stärkeren sozialen Kohäsion identifiziert werden können, legt dieses Projekt seinen Arbeitsschwerpunkt auf die Auswertung von migrationsbezogenen Planungsdokumenten, Planungspraxen und Stadtentwicklungsansätzen. Es wird danach gefragt, welche Herangehensweisen hilfreich sein können, um auch kleineren Städten die Entwicklung von Handlungsansätzen zu erleichtern. Ein besonderer Fokus liegt auf der Einbeziehung von migrationsbezogenen NGOs und Städtenetzwerken wie den Sanctuary cities, den Solidarity Cities, Seebrücke oder „Welcoming Europe“.
