With the release of the Moominvalley (2019–) animated TV series, the Moomin characters have once again appeared on screens across the world. Whether this newest adaptation of Tove Jansson’s books and comic strips will initiate a new ‘Moomin boom’ remains to be seen. Nevertheless, the re-appearance of the Moomins in domestic (Finnish) and internatio...

Enderal (SureAI 2016/2019), is a full-conversion non-commercial mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, set in its own unique world and featuring original lore and narrative. Exploring the fictional continent of Enderal, player will encounter a variety of landscapes and numerous in-game loc...
The following piece is based on the lectio praecursoria presented at the defense of the doctoral dissertation ‘Ideal Absence and Situated Readers: Experiencing Space Through Connection to Tove Jansson and her Works’ which was publicly discussed on November 3, 2021, at the University of Jyväskylä. The full version of the dissertation can be found at...
Finnish-Swedish artist and writer Tove Jansson (1914-2001), widely known as the author of the Moomin books, was born in Helsinki and resided there for the greater part of her life. The city features as a setting for her adult-oriented fiction-notably, semi-autobiographical fix-up novels Sculptor's Daughter (1968/2015) and Fair Play (1989/2011). Thi...
The article looks at the possibilities of studying familiar places, with no existing connection to fictional narratives, through the prism of fiction.
The presentation is based on autoethnographic fieldwork conducted during the so-called Tove Jansson walk in Helsinki, which involved following a self-navigated walking route around the city, using itineraries published on the web pages of the Helsinki Art Museum and Moomin Characters Ltd as prompts. Tove Jansson (1914–2001), a Finnish-Swedish artis...
The proposed presentation focuses on Anglophone fandom dedicated to a Japanese transmedia franchise Weiß Kreuz. Over a span of ten years (1997-2007), manga series, anime series, OVA, a light novel and audio dramas were produced within the franchise, telling a story of four assassins working in a flower shop as a cover-up. Notable peculiarities of t...
The article employs the theme of a literary walk (Watson 2009), a practice of encountering places with literary associations on foot. Urban areas present especially suitable settings for such themed walks, as cities can have multiple literary connections, and literary places are located within a short distance from one another. In this paper, I foc...
The article discusses the concept of authenticity in relation to literary travel and other forms of media-induced travel. Focusing on the power of fictional narrative to draw members of the audience to locations associated with a story, the paper aims to find out what exactly visitors are expecting to find when journeying to locations with literary...
Literary tourism is a sub-sector of cultural tourism and relates to travelling to places connected to fictional texts and the authors of those texts. Although it is an old form of tourism and lies at the foundation of classic European Grand Tour, it has not received much academic attention until recently and a number of qualitative studies on liter...

I'm interested in Russian-speaking fan communities (could be within manga/anime fan communities) centred around production/consumption of yaoi/BL/danmei.
Is anyone conducting research on ex-students’ motivation for re-visiting places of study? Previous research (e.g. by Jing Bill Xu and Songshan Sam Huang, 2018) has focused on current non-local students’ intentions of visiting places of study in the future.
What about non-local ex-students (including international degree and exchange students) returning to places of study for visits several years later? Visiting familiar places and previous homes is a fascinating research topic, imo. If anyone is interested, I’ve got a piece of qualitative data (own autoethnographic account) to share.

Hi, I am interested if anyone is studying the online cultures surrounding YouTube/Twitch channels dedicated to video games/film/TV music covers. E.g. channels of artists like Malukah, Peter Hollens, Taylor Davis.
I am trying to connect female literary tourists' behaviour/experiences to women's reading practices
