Background: This randomized, controlled clinical trial aimed to compare the differences in periodontal clinical outcomes, duration of the procedure, and patient's experience between conventional scaling and root planing and erbium-doped: yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Er:YAG) in the treatment of generalized moderate to severe chronic periodontitis or gen...

Successful treatment of peri-implantitis requires decontamination of implant surfaces exposed to biofilms and byproducts of tissue inflammation. In this regard, dental lasers may provide a clinical benefit. While the inherent characteristics of specific laser wavelengths may damage titanium implant surfaces, in vitro and animal studies have shown t...

The purpose of this study was to conduct an in vitro evaluation of the efficacy of six dental lasers, two ultrasonic scalers, and a titanium curette in the removal of dental cement from the surface of an implant. The study used a total of 39 dental implants, representing three different surface textures. The implants were divided into 13 groups wit...

The relatively low average 0.4 watt laser power at 10,600 nm in SuperPulse mode minimizes the heat load on the implants, and yet results in high laser fluence exiting the tip and high clinical efficacy of the single treatment protocol due to (1) small spot size and high beam divergence laser tip, and (2) zigzag passes of the tip within the sulcus d...
Conference Paper
Innovations in Periodontics 2015 Dr Eric Linden's lecture featured closed approaches for treating peri-implantits utilizing different wavelength lasers. The included wavelengths :ND/YAG 1064nm, Erbiums 2780nm & 2940nm, and the SuperPulsed 10,600nm . Clinical cases were presented with each wavelength with pre/post op X-rays, photos and clinical re...

A large percentage of dental implants experience complications, most commonly, infection leading to peri-implantitis and peri-mucositis, inflammatory disease involving pathogen contamination. It presents with radiographic findings of crestal bone loss. At this time there appears to be no compelling evidence for an effective intervention. The LANAP...

This controlled, double-blind, split-mouth study was designed to evaluate postoperative pain experience following periodontal surgery on 20 patients. Two commercially available local anesthetic agents, bupivacaine HCl and lidocaine HCl, were used. Periodontal surgeries were standardized to minimize differences in difficulty, extent and time. A pati...
