En nombre del rock se ha escrito lo más alegre y lo más triste, en nombre del rock se han alabado el amor y los más profundos abismos de la tristeza. Chile, Colombia and Mexico have long been at the heart of neo-liberal experimentation and cybertarian fantasy. Questions (3)
Question
We are aiming to do something similar about Latin Americna media companies, or media companies that have expanded to Latin America, so I was wondering if our research projects share interests or places and how could we then exchange information.
Question
Considering the media modifications brought about by digital technologies, we are starting to talk about Post-cinema and about the need to update national and international legislation that defines and governs television.
How should television policy change to suit those technological changes, to prevent delving on previous media anchors (as pointed out by McLuhan's tetrad)?
Question
Video games made in different parts of the world target a variety of markets by making their products more attractive to different users in processes of localization. Some others tend to aim for more "universal" appeal, and to do so they try to distance themselves from specific cultural references. I am interested in finding the ways, processes, debates and strategies used in this cultural/market exchange.

Project
This project focuses on a theoretical and empirical study of the concept of nostalgia in the Colombian media environment and its implications in the construction of memory and social structure of consumption. Nostalgia, as a particular phenomenon associated with mercantilist capitalism, is presented as a stranger to bring awareness of the past, to become a product of mass consumption and market strategy for audiovisual products. Although the tendency to take nostalgia is not novel and can be seen throughout the twentieth century, the interesting thing is raised through the construction of audiovisual imaginaries that arise from the transformation into a commodity of cultural products, their accumulation, acquisition and its constitution as intertextual references of various works. In this sense, the exploration of contemporary nostalgia implies understanding the relationship between the subject and the media environment in which it exists, and the appropriations of popular culture that become elements of consumption or marketing. In the Colombian case, the boom of re-presentations of the 80s and 90s, as well as the emergence of Señal Colombia, pose a space for us to remember and compile the nostalgic images of our past. It is in this theoretical-empirical interstice that we inscribe this research that investigates the relationship between nostalgia, the media environment in which it exists and the appropriations that the digital age makes of its analogue referent as an element of consumption in a capitalist scenario. We are particularly interested in analyzing the relationships of the subjects with the images [retro-images] that are crystallized in acts of seeing in which the visible, nostalgic, appears to us as a loss, as something, a time, that escapes us, that we no longer have.
