I'm interested in using genetic analyses to solve conversation issues and have a particular passion for the marine environment and evaluating the relative vulnerability of shark species to exploitation. I'm currently completing my PhD assessing the genetic connectivity and effective population size of the Galapagos shark in Australia and the Southwest Pacific using a high resolution SNP dataset.
The Australian gummy shark Mustelus antarcticus is distributed across southern and eastern Australian waters and is the main target of a large shark fishery. Commercial harvest of the species is considered sustainable based on biomass estimates that show recovery from past overexploitation. However, the effective population size and genetic-based a...
The Australian Gummy shark (Mustelus antarcticus) is the main target species of a large fishery that functions across its distribution in Southern and Eastern Australian waters. Commercial harvest of the species is currently considered sustainable based on target biomass estimates that show recovery from past overexploitation. However, previous res...
We will conduct population genetic analyses based on SNPs genotyped from 200 samples sourced from Lord Howe Island, New Zealand, the Kermadec Islands, Elizabeth and Middleton Reefs, and Norfolk Island. This research will contribute to the sustainable management of this species, which is currently classed as ‘Data Deficient’ in the Australia and Oceania region and ‘Near Threatened’ globally.
