Introduction
My books, articles, and digital projects explore how people use literacy and language to endure and create change. I have been a scholar of literacy, race, and culture for two decades and a scholar of Cherokee literacies and empire for fifteen of those years. My work is supported by the Henry Luce Foundation, the National Archives, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. As an interdisciplinary scholar, I use qualitative methodologies with an emphasis on reciprocity with communities.
