The presence of immigration in the European urban landscape contributes to the re-questioning of taken-for-granted use and meanings of the urban texture. In Italian cities, we witness a contemporary struggle between different groups and individuals for the physical and symbolical production and appropriation of public space. This paper is based on...

Project
The Project NEIGHBOURCHANGE-Social Innovation and Urban Revitalization in Hyperdiverse Local Societies is a Marie Curie Global Fellowship that aims at advanceing the scientific debate particularly focusing on three domains: • Governance/institutional learning: how area-based initiatives following an innovative social approach promote institutional learning in the governance process as well as political activation in the local societies • Inclusion/exclusion dynamics: whether and how community-based initiatives inspired by an innovative social approach targeting deprived neighbourhoods can intervene on increasing socio-spatial inequalities • Planning practice: how urban regeneration can be promoted through a complex set of path-dependent and contextual territorial development strategies instead of state-led and top down approaches that have in many cases resulted in new urban dynamics and urban tensions, gentrification processes and social exclusion. In partnership with J. David Hulchanski, University of Toronto & Maarten Van Ham, TU Delft
