Il Modello Metacognitivo Trifasico per i disturbi alcool correlati (Spada, Caselli & Wells 2012) descrive in termini cognitivi i tre stati dinamici che caratterizzano il consumo problematico di alcol: anticipazione/desiderio (craving), consumo/intossicazione, astinenza. Il modello è basato sulla presenza di tre componenti metacognitive chiave: il pensiero desiderante, i processi cognitivi disfunzionali (rimuginio e ruminazione), e le credenze metacognitive. In linea con tale modello, lo scopo della ricerca è di verificare se la presenza di metacredenze positive e negative e il pensiero desiderante predicono il craving e l’abuso di alcol nelle fasi successive.
