Introduction
My research focuses on performance-based seismic design and analysis of reinforced concrete structures. During my MSc and PhD studies, I have developed various structural design methods to enhance the seismic performance of reinforced concrete structures. My end goal is to contribute to the next-generation seismic resistant design practice.

This article evaluates how different reinforced concrete (RC) building systems in Türkiye behaved during the extreme 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes. The analysis relies on a comprehensive field survey covering 242 RC buildings across various heavily affected locations. Most surveyed buildings were low- and mid-rise RC moment frames and frame-wall (...
Article
The February 2023 earthquakes in Türkiye caused widespread devastation and fatalities, highlighting the critical contrast in the seismic performance of reinforced concrete (RC) buildings with moment-resistant frames and those with structural walls. This study employs analyses of nonlinear single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) systems using selected accel...

Data from 15 earthquakes that occurred in 12 different countries are presented showing that, without better drift control, structures built with building codes allowing large seismic drifts are likely to keep leaving a wide wake of damage ranging from cracked partitions to building overturning. Following the earthquake sequence affecting southeast...

The 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes (Mw7.7 Pazarcık and Mw7.6 Elbistan) struck eleven cities in Türkiye within nine hours. Over 200,000 buildings collapsed or suffered severe damage, while an additional 500,000 had moderate or light damage. Following the earthquakes, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change of Türkiye conducted...
Conference Paper
The devastating earthquakes that struck Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023 (Pazarcık Mw=7.7 and Elbistan Mw=7.6) impacted 11 cities and millions of people in Türkiye. The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change reported severe consequences, with over 820,000 independent units and 270,000 buildings needing immediate demolition due t...

Seismic design codes are the standards that provide resistance for the structures against the potential seismic forces that the structure may face. One of the provisions in the seismic design codes is the strong column - weak beam (SCWB) requirement. It suggests that at that the sum of the flexural strength of the columns at a joint should be great...

On 30 October 2020, an M 7.0 earthquake occurred north of Samos Island. The fault rupture caused sudden lowering of the seafloor, which produced a tsunami that mainly impacted nearby Samos Island as well as a series of Anatolian cities along the coast of Seferihisar Bay, with maximum runup and inundation lengths of about 3.8 m and 2500 m, resulting...

Site observations and analytical studies show that low-rise RC frames have larger interstory drift ratios at the lower stories under earthquake loading. It is obvious that due to the localization of drifts, these structures could reach their capacity limits earlier than a system with a well-distributed drift among its stories. This phenomenon is es...

Interstory drift concentration under seismic demands is a common issue in reinforced concrete frames which may result in premature failures. In this study, an organized stiffness distribution along the building height was studied to mitigate the drift concentrations. The targeted stiffness distribution was obtained by placing infill walls whose sti...
