Scintillations are caused by ionospheric irregularities and can affect the propagation of trans-ionospheric radio signals. One way to understand and predict the impact of such irregularities on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals is through the spatial/temporal characterization of the scintillation's climatology during different phase...
The importance of studying ionospheric
phenomena increases as society modernizes and
makes use of technologies that require the usage of
orbiting satellites. Their signals suffer scintillation at
the ionosphere due to its irregularities. This work aims
to quantify the moderate to strong scintillations at three
different regions (magnetic equator an...
The ionospheric investigations have improved our understanding of the space weather role in the upper atmosphere conditions, particularly at higher latitudes where the geospace phenomena print their signatures. The simultaneous observations using multi-instruments have improved our knowledge of the coupling processes inside the ionosphere, and thei...
Scintillations are caused by ionospheric irregularities and can affect the propagation of trans-ionospheric radio signals. One way to understand and predict the impact of such irregularities on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals is through the climatological behavior of the ionospheric scintillation indexes during the different phase...
Geolocal is a new navigation system conceived and patented in Brazil, whose purpose is to be independent of other global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). It has an ‘inverted-GNSS’ configuration with at least four bases on the ground at known geodesic position coordinates and a repeater in space. Simulations were performed to determine the preci...
The ionospheric dynamics in the South America (SA) sector during geomagnetic disturbed period from 21 to 24 June 2015 is investigated through ground ionosonde stations and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers, supported by Very Low Frequency (VLF) and magnetometer data. These disturbances were caused by 3 interplanetary shocks (IS) d...
Questions
Question (1)
We can see in many publications that in the ionosphere, the zonal electrical field is directed eastward on the dayside and westward on the nightside. Why exactly that happens? What are the physics involved?
Projects
Project (1)
The main goal is to study the impacts of space weather in the upper atmosphere from polar region to South America, specifically over the Brazilian territory. The connection with other atmospheric studies (lower layers) will improve our understanding of the space weather role in the climate change and atmospheric dynamics.
