Introduction
PhD in plant sciences, with a broad expertise in molecular techniques involving several plant species. I have developed my scientific skills through several postdocs and research stays where I have learnt different techniques, with successful results (i.e. publications and conference contributions). I have worked in different research areas (Ecology, Plant Physiology, Botany), showing my willingness to explore new research areas and learn are specific techniques.

The infrageneric taxonomy and evolution of Ranunculus are still not well understood. In this regard, we investigated the origin and genetic diversity of the Iberian endemic plant Ranunculus bupleuroides s.l. by analysis of nuclear internal transcribed spacers (ITS) and plastid (rpl32-trnL, rps16-trnQ, trnK-matK, ycf6-psbM) sequence data. Phylogenet...

Petrocoptis is a small genus of chasmophytic plants endemic to the Iberian Peninsula, with some localized populations in the French Pyrenees. Within the genus, a dozen species have been recognized based on morphological diversity, most of them with limited distribution area, in small populations and frequently with potential threats to their surviv...

The flora of Western Europe is rich in endemic species of Apiaceae, many of which have been poorly investigated and whose phylogenetic relationships are poorly known. To investigate relationships among three endemic European genera (Dethawia, Meum, and Rivasmartinezia gen. nov.) and to ascertain their higher-level phylogenetic placements within the...

Ranunculus parnassifolius is an orophilous plant distributed throughout Central and Southwestern Europe (Alps, Pyrenees and Cantabrian Mountains). Its evolutionary history and taxonomy are often complicated, having been little studied before now. The purpose of this article is to present flow cytometry measurements and multivariate morphometric ana...

In environmental restoration, evaluating the effect of control actions on alien species is essential for a correct assessment of the success of the restoration. A simple method for the evaluation of the dynamics of alien plants after manual and mechanical control in restored areas is proposed in this work. This method is based on the cover-abundanc...

The use of molecular methods in plant systematics and taxonomy has increased during the last decades, however, the accessibility of curated genetic samples and their metadata is a bottleneck for DNA‐based genetic studies in botany. Plant biodiversity DNA banks and DNA‐friendly collections could be critical suppliers of curated genetic material for...

In northern European Cochlearia (Brassicaceae), considerable chromosome variation has taken place without corresponding morphological differentiation, resulting in an intricate species complex including two base chromosome numbers and several ploidies. Here, we investigate the situation in Iceland. The distribution, genetic structure, taxonomy and...

The macroalgal flora of Cantabria (north of Spain) has attracted the interest of many researchers on past occasions. Currently published information only reflects occasional collections from sporadic field visits to this region of the Spanish Atlantic coast. To overcome this, a historical overview of research and publications, encompassing collecti...

The proliferation of invasive plants in ecosystems is one of the main causes of biodiversity loss. These invasive plants not only negatively affect native species but also influence the environment, causing economic and public health damage to humans. The control and eradication of these plants is an essential strategy for the conservation of nativ...

We present the first standardized list of the vascular flora of the Cantabrian Mountains, a transitional zone between the Eurosiberian and Mediterranean biogeographic regions in northwestern Spain. The study area comprises 15000 km2 divided in UTM grid cells of 10 km x 10 km, for which we revised occurrence data reported in the Spanish Plant Inform...

The Cantabrian brown bear population, confined in the Cantabrian mountains of northwestern Spain, is a small and threatened population (300-350 individuals), and isolated from other populations over 300 km. Like other southern subpopulations, these bears are elusive and have a markedly vegetarian diet, including fruit trees, often grown by humans....

Petrocoptis montsicciana and P. pardoi are two Iberian endemic taxa of Caryophyllaceae family with an unclear taxonomic delimitation, being variously treated as independent species, subspecies or even synonyms. In the present study, allozyme raw data obtained in the early 2000s have been reused with improved tools to survey genetic structure, and c...

The Atlantic territories of western Europe and their surrounding areas are cohabited by two different species of ivies (Hedera), which are morphologically very similar, although they present different ploidy levels: Hedera helix (2x) and Hedera hibernica (4x). Concerning the northwest Atlantic Iberian territories and their surrounding areas, there...

Alien and invasive plants are one of the mayor threats for the alluvial forests with Alnus glutinosa and Fraxinus excelsior (Alno-Padion, Alnion incanae, Salicion albae) (priority habitat 91E0*) of NW of the Iberian Peninsula river corridors. A correct management is required to improve the actual conservation status of this riparian habitat. The ai...

The genus Helosciadium has six species of which three have been identified in Portugal: H. nodiflorum, frequent and abundant in much of the territory, and H. inundatum and H. repens, with a scattered distribution in Portugal. In the present study, a new species, Helosciadium milfontinum, a seriously threatened plant endemic, rare and scarce that gr...

Endemicity is a key consideration for conservation, and taxa that are endemic to a single country are vaulable conservation targets. In this study, we investigate endemic species of the genus Campanula in northern Iberian Peninsula based on sequences of nrDNA (internal transcribed spacer, ITS) and plastid regions (rbcL, trnL-F and trnS-G) and addit...

Recent phylogeographical study of Eurasian Nuphar species has revealed that after the subgenus diversificated in eastern Asia, N. pumila and N. lutea extended westwards to Siberia and further into Europe. However, isolated Nuphar populations from southwestern Europe were not included in previous phylogeographic study and their history remained unkn...

Gen. Sp. 1: 372 (...

Background: The disjunct distribution patterns of a taxon may arise when previously continuous distribution ranges are fragmented. The phenomena of vicariance and dispersal, together with hybridisation as an important source of genetic variation in natural populations, can play an important role for structuring the distribution of taxa. Aims: We in...
