Introduction
am a physical education teacher, PHd, master and specialist in exercise physiology and sports training. I worked as head of the Physical Education Sector of the Presidency of the Republic of Brazil from 1990 to 2019. At the same time, I am training elite athletes for medium / long distance, sprint and triathlon (I am a level five trainer (IAAF)). Research areas of interest to me: exercise physiology, athletic performance and immune response to exercise / training.

Introduction: Post Activation Potentiation (PAP) is the effect caused by a conditioning exercise with maximum or submaximal loads that promotes increased explosive strength in the subsequent activity. This phenomenon is due to the phosphorylation of light chain regulatory myosin manifesting in fast-twitch type II fibers. Electro-stimulation is a me...

Knowing running speed, particularly by means of easy-to-apply tests and low cost, is important to the definition of race strategy and of the most appropriate training throughout the preparation period. The aim was to compare the agreement and reproducibility of critical velocity (CV), anaerobic threshold (AT), and the time trial on the track for th...

Neuromuscular Electrostimulation is a technique of involuntary contraction of skeletal muscles.. Since overlapping voluntary contraction in strength training may potentiate the physiological effects resulting from training, therefore, these adaptations are not yet fully elucidated in the literature. Objective: The aim of the study was to verify the...

In order to understand the effect of endurance running on inflammation, it is necessary to quantify the extent to which acute and chronic running affects inflammatory mediators. The aim of this study was to summarise the literature on the effects of endurance running on inflammation mediators. Electronic searches were conducted on PubMED and Scienc...

Oliveira-Silva I, Nunes FNX, Barros E, Diniz D, Sales MM, Rabelo MM, Sotero RC, Fontoura HS, Tolentino GP. Autonomic Response on Different Micro-Cycles of Training in Young Healthy Swimmers. JEPonline 2017;20(1):140-150. The aim of this study was to assess the autonomic response on different micro-cycles of training in healthy swimmers, and their r...

Purpose Given the coexistence of post-activation potentiation (PAP) and fatigue within muscle, it is not known whether PAP could influence performance and pacing during distance running by moderating fatigue. The aim of this study was to assess the influence of PAP on pacing, jumping and other physiological measures during a self-paced 30 km trial....

Previous studies on HR recovery (HRR) measures have utilized the supine and the seated postures. However, the most common recovery mode in sport and clinical settings after running exercise is active walking. The aim of the current study was to examine the reliability of HR measures during walking (4 km•h-1) before and following a maximal test. Twe...

To verify the existence of association between plasma levels of pro- or anti-inflammatory mediators and atherosclerotic burden at coronary and carotid arteries in individuals aged of 80 or more years old. Healthy individuals aged between 80 and 102 years old (n = 178) underwent evaluation of plasma cytokines and acute phase proteins, intima-media t...

Incremental treadmill tests are widely used for prescription of aerobic and anaerobic training. Physiological and kinematics parameters are changed by the progressive nature of this activity. However, there is no consensus on how anthropometric characteristics may affect the incremental test performance. Therefore, the aims of this study were (1) t...

We aim to verify: 1) the influence of a strength training program on PAP responses, running economy and pacing; 2) the effect of circadian rhythms on PAP responses; 3) the relationship between jump capacity, MVC, and twitch responses after an incremental test; 4) the influence of intensity and volume of running on PAP responses and MLC phosphorylation.
