There is a protocol in Vacca's Laboratory Manual of Histochemistry that reduces Masson to only phosphomolybdic acid and anilin.
In short, it's same as normal Masson but staining with acid fuchsin is skipped.
I've been using it to stain rat femur sections and works really well in my case. Bone stains deep blue, cartilage and bone marrow pale blue.
Answer
We usually stop in 70% ethanol overnight and we didn't encounter any problems yet. Tho, we usually don't work with samples that are so thin.
Stopping in 100% ethanol might work fine, but it could harden your tissue and make it hard to cut later.
All in all, best would be to give both options a try (if you can) before committing samples that might be impossible to obtain again.

Hi Dr. Conde,
There are 3 traditional adhesives that are a bit uncommon nowadays but still work well with paraffin sections: Mayer's egg albumin, starch paste and nitrocellulose(celloidin).
Tho, I'm not sure if any of them would work in your case, they might be worth a try.

There are different ways of obtaining volume and surface-related parameters for describing the micromorphology of different tissues, including cancellous bone. Histomorphometry and micro-computed tomography can be too costly for small laboratories and institutions, especially when proprietary software or expensive equipment is needed. Free and open...

Trefoil factor family (Tff) peptide 2 and Tff peptide 3 are small peptides mostly present in the gastrointestinal mucosa and related to mucosal protection and restitution. Tff3 is included in hepatic glucose metabolism, and both Tff2 and Tff3 peptide stimulate beta-cell proliferation in the pancreatic islets. Tff2 and Tff3 deficient mice including...

Histological procedures can be a complex and lengthy process. Staining of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) sections requires a lot of intermediate steps in which the consumption of chemicals can be extensive and time-consuming. Furthermore, an unknown tissue sample may occur, or a quick look at the tissue structure may be required for furth...

Reactive oxygen species play a role in a number of degenerative conditions including osteoporosis. Flavonoids as phyto-oestrogens exert physiological effects against oxidative stress diseases. We developed a retinoic acid-induced bone loss model of rats to assess whether flavonoids and alendronate as positive control have role against oxidative str...
