Introduction
I am working on morphosyntactic variation in extraterritorial varieties of Upper and Middle German spoken in the German National District of the Atlai Krai in Russia. In my PhD I focus on phenomena such as the weakening of strong verbs or variation in the placement of finite verbs. Therefore, I conducted interviews and recorded a total of 24 frog stories. I compare my findings with other so called speech islands in order to disentangle internal (typological) and external (contact) influence.
