Introduction
Dr Eamon C Faulkner is an endothelial cell and cancer biologist. His basic and clinical laboratory research is interdisciplinary (linking biology, medicine and computer science) and focused on studying the role of human endothelial cells in chronic diseases (including cancer and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis) and multimorbidity, and on early detection and diagnosis of cancer by using platform technologies (www.endothelial-cell.com).

Background: Interactions between tissue factor (TF) and β1-integrin induce cell signals, but the molecular mechanisms are not completely understood. The extracellular domain of TF and EGF4-βTD domains of β1-integrin were hypothesised to be the most likely domains involved in the interaction. Additionally, the interaction may induce a conformational...
Tissue factor (TF) possesses additional physiological functions beyond initiating the coagulation cascade. Cellular signals initiated by cellular TF or on contact with TF‑containing microvesicles, contribute to wound healing through regulating a number of cellular properties and functions. TF regulates the cell cycle checkpoints, however the underl...
Background
Older age is the main risk factor for chronic lung diseases including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Halting or reversing progression of IPF remains an unmet clinical need due to limited knowledge of underlying mechanisms. The lung circulatory system, composed of blood (pulmonary and bronchial) and lymphatic vessels networks, has b...
