Pulmonary embolism is an extremely common and lethal condition. It occurs when an artery in the pulmonary vasculature becomes blocked. Blockage is caused by one or more blood clots that travel to the lungs from another part of the body. Most of these blood clots originate in the legs, but they can also form in the arm veins, the right side of the h...

Malaria is the most important parasitic disease of man. It is the protozoan infection of RBCs transmitted by bite of blood feeding female anopheline mosquito. Until the 19th century malaria was found throughout Europe, North America and Russia. Since then, it has been eradicated from these areas but in tropics though initial efforts of eradication...

The present study was designed to analyze the clinical profile and antibiotic sensitivity pattern in the cases of culture positive typhoid fever. The study was conducted over a period of 1 year. Total of 46 culture positive cases of Typhoid fever were included in the study. The sensitivity pattern of isolates from blood culture was recorded. The mo...

To review the results of patients who underwent arthroscopic reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) via a single incision technique using a bone-patellar tendon-bone autograft. Patients with ACL-deficient knees who were symptomatic and wanted to maintain an active lifestyle or continue sporting activities were included. ACL reconstr...

A case of an aneurysmal bone cyst that involved the distal tibia and medial malleolus with erosion of the medial cortex in a 22-year-old woman is presented. The patient was surgically treated by curettage and bone grafting along with reconstruction of the distal tibia by using ipsilateral proximal fibula. At the 2-year follow-up, the patient had fu...
Article
A two-year-old male child presented with bizarre bypopigmented skin lesions, severe mental retardation and generalized tonic-clonic seizures. Examination showed hypopigmented patterned whoris and irregular patches over the trunk and linear streaks over the flexor aspects of upper and lower limbs. He also had generalized hypertonia and brisk tendon...
Article
We report a case of the Wildervanck (cervico-oculo-acoustic) syndrome exhibiting Klippel-Feil anomaly, congenital sensorineural deafness and bilateral sixth nerve palsy. Associated anomalies included short stature, microcephaly, mental retardation, and cleft palate.
Article
Renal vein thrombosis (RVT) may be fatal, particularly when it occurs bilaterally. We report a neonate who recovered from bilateral RVT on supportive management alone. A 2450 g male infant was born at term gestation to a non-diabetic mother. The anmiotic fluid contained particulate mecoilium. The Apgar scores were 1 and 3 at 1 and 5 minutes, respec...
Article
A rare case of splenic abscess occurring after blunt abdominal trauma in a previously healthy boy is reported. The diagnosis was made by ultrasonography. The patient recovered after splenectomy and drainage of subphrenic and intraperitoneal pus.
Article
An expression developed by the authors for the prediction of effective thermal conductivity (K//E) of a two-phase system is applied to porous and solid-solid mixture systems. The predicted values of K//E agree reasonably well with the experimental data. Comparison of K//E values predicted using different theoretical expressions already reported in...

A Steady state method is used for the measurement of specific heat of Rajasthan desert sand as a function of temperature. The measured values of specific heat vary from 0.194 Cal/gm/degree calcius(at280 degree K) to 0.239 cal/gm/degree calcius(at 500 degree K).A curve of the form C=A+BT is found to follow the experimental data. a nomogram is also d...
Article
The theory of the continuous flow electrical method for the determination of specific heat of liquids has been extended to the measurements of effective specific heat of packed bed materials consisting of solid-liquid phase systems. Experimental data are reported showing the variation of effective specific heat with mass porosity and saturating liq...
Article
A nomogram for the prediction of the effective thermal conductivity of two phase porous media is presented which is constructed according to the Chaudhary and Bhandari equation based upon the geometric mean of maximum and minimum thermal conductivities. A chart estimating the effective thermal conductivity values between probable limits and a nomog...
Article
The weighted geometric mean of maximum and minimum thermal conductivities, proposed by Chaudhary and Bhandari for calculating effective thermal conductivities of porous media, has been applied to unconsolidated dry materials. The relation is tested with values obtained experimentally by Smith for Miami silt loam, and fair agreement is found.
Article
Experimental values of the effective thermal conductivity obtained by Sugawara on calcareous sandstone partially filled with water are compared with values calculated by using the geometric mean equation of Lichteneker extended to a system having three phases and also with values obtained from a relation given by Brailsford and Major. The calculate...
