We propose an enriched finite element formulation to address the computational modeling of contact problems and the coupling of non-conforming discretizations in the small deformation setting. The displacement field is augmented by enriched terms that are associated with generalized degrees of freedom collocated along non-conforming interfaces or c...

In this work, an object‐oriented geometric engine is proposed to solve problems with discontinuities, for instance, material interfaces and cracks, by means of unfitted, immersed or enriched finite element methods. Both explicit and implicit methods, such as geometric entities and level sets, are introduced to describe configurations of discontinui...

The application of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites is gaining increasing popularity in impact-resistant devices, automotives, biomedical devices and aircraft structures due to their high strength-to-weight ratios and their potential for impact energy absorption. Impact-induced high loading rates can result in significant changes of mechan...

Through tensile testing of 15 steel bolt-sphere joints and 15 aluminum alloy bolt-sphere joints, influencing rules of material type, high temperature and cooling mode on tensile properties of post-fire bolt-sphere joints were studied, and then failure modes of the joints were determined. According to experimental data, the calculation formula of re...

This paper describes a study on the extreme thick-walled cold-formed square columns which are manufactured from circular to square shape, of which the width was 800 mm and the thickness was 22 mm. A systematic investigation of material behavior, residual stress distribution, and axial compression performance was performed numerically and experiment...

Question
I have implemented a BiCGSTAB iterative solver, for a certain linear equation, the Jacobi preconditioner actually deteriorates the convergence rate. The matrix A is positive definite and nothing really special. Based on my understanding of BiCGSTAB, with a Jacobi preconditioner, it should be always easier to solve such a linear equation than a BiCGSTAB solver without a preconditioner. However, when I remove the preconditioner, it converges much faster.
So can anyone tell me what is going on here? Do you understand the BiCGSTAB correctly?
Question
I designed a new 2D FEM element, so I want to know if it suffers from locking or not, so I wonder is there any numerical value or methods with which I can know the answer.
Thanks for your answering.
Question
I would like to get the analytical solution for a heat junction to investigate the singularity there. I think I can get the temperature field of a triple line heat junction by applying superposition, for which I probably need the steady state response for a single line, but right now I didn't find any reference on that, so can anyone give me any suggestions or send me the reference on this?
Question
As I would study the singularity problem at the intersection of line heat source, so I wonder if anyone know any analytical solutions for the problem with intersecting line heat source in a finite/infinite domain? Really appreciate it!
Question
I read some papers and then get the singularity at the junction point of multiple material assembly, can I use that to retrieve the field of the domain to later on used in a error calculation? If you can help me, I will really appreciate
Question
A line element in FEM based method, one node of this line element doesn't retain any physical meaning, here I mean the displacement of that node is calculated by the linear combination of another two nodes, so that there is no unique real degree of freedom related to that node, while another node of this line element is a normal node which retains its physical meaning and has a real dof. So how to assemble this line element correctly into the global stiffness matrix.
