Introduction
I study mire ecosystems in all their diversity (with special attention to higher plants, invertebrates and protists). Recently I have been developing a direction called "mire hydrobiology". It is a special area in hydrobiology, devoted to biological processes in different-type water objects of mires and the ways they are related to their environment.

A new small-celled species of the genus Euastrum is described from Piyavochnoe Mire (Vologda Region, European Russia). The species was studied by light and scanning electron microscopy. This species refers to the group of Cosmarium-like species of Euastrum. This taxon is also compared to the other morphologically similar species.
