The monocot family Cyclanthaceae (Pandanales) comprises ca. 230 known species in 12 genera restricted to the Neotropics. The family has not been the subject of a species‐level molecular phylogenetic study to date, with multiple evolutionary and biogeographic questions about Cyclanthaceae still unanswered. In this study, we address genus‐ and specie...
A new species of Asplundia from the Cordillera Central in Colombia is described and illustrated. Asplundia callejasii is placed in A. subg. Asplundia, based on the morphology of the staminate flowers. The most distinctive characteristic of A. callejasii is its long leaves, with the blade unicostate, oblanceolate, shallowly divided, and very lustrou...
Genetic diversity is key in providing the variation needed to face stochastic change. Increased habitat loss alters population size and dynamics posing serious threats to the conservation of wild species. Colombia has undergone massive deforestation over the last century, but harbours extraordinary high species diversity of genus Zamia (Cycadales),...
Wild plant species with potential for use as ornamental green foliage are often reported. Nevertheless, there are few studies evaluating morphological and anatomical aspects associated with this use. Preliminary trials suggest that the species of Sphaeradenia (Sander ex Mast.) Harling, a Cyclantaceae that occurs from Costa Rica to Peru, is suitable...

The genus Zamia (Zamiaceae: Cycadales) exhibits its greatest diversity in Colombia and is highly threatened by habitat loss, extraction for ornamental plant trade, and mining, among other factors. One of the most important considerations for the effective conservation of Zamia is its highly specialize...
The genus Zamia (Zamiaceae: Cycadales) reaches its greatest diversity in Colombia and its species are highly threatened by different factors. One of the most relevant and frequently ignored aspects for establishing conservation programs is its highly specialized pollination process. Despite the importance of pollination for the Zamia populations’ v...
Zamia incognita is distributed within the Magdalena Medio region, in the Antioquia and Santander departments, Colombia. Since 2009 various activities like research, exploration and cultivation have been executed with the aim of obtaining the greatest amount of possible information, in order to elaborate an effective conservation strategy for this s...

We are working on describing derelomine new species, as well as their interactions with Angiosperms, to finaly understand the evolutionary history of the associations.
My research focuses on taxonomy and phylogeny of neotropical family Cyclanthaceae. I am working on the nomenclature as well as on the molecular and morphologic phylogeny and character evolution in all genera of Cyclanths.
