Notre dispo...

A twin crystal-spectrometer assembly, operated in the focusing compensated asymmetric Laue geometry has been developed for accurate spectroscopy of fast highly charged heavy ions in the hard-X-ray region. Coupled to the focusing crystal optics is a specially developed two-dimensional position-sensitive X-ray detector which is necessary for retainin...

BEPI COLOMBO is a joint mission between ESA and JAXA that is scheduled for launch in 2014 and arrival at Mercury in 2020. A comprehensive set of ion sensors will be flown onboard the two probes that form BEPI COLOMBO. These ion sensors combined with electron analyzers will allow a detailed investigation of the structure and dynamics of the charged...

This Opinion details a series of errors in the methodology that was used to derive the emission limits that are supposed to protect children against the retinal phototoxicity (blue light hazard) and the intense glare with the visible light emitted by LEDs. These errors were discovered in a 2012 scientific journal paper which was transposed in the...

The analysis of the current safety standards for electric toys showed that the normative intensity limits for visible light emitted by LEDs integrated in toys are overestimated. These limits were originally set in a scientific article published in 2012 that was adapted into the international safety standard published in 2017, and into the subsequen...

Literature provides few if no data on the current use and exposure of individuals to virtual reality (VR) and/or augmented reality (AR) technologies in the wild. Most of the publications concern prototypes and systems tested in laboratories, whereas actual uses in private and professional situations are poorly documented. Obtaining a clear picture...

The present review draws together wide-ranging studies performed over the last decades that catalogue the effects of artificial-light-at-night (ALAN) upon living species and their environment. We provide an overview of the tremendous variety of light-detection strategies which have evolved in living organisms - unicellular, plants and animals, cove...

L’Anses a...

An appraisal of the effects on human health and the environment of LEDs by the authors of the report of the French health agency ANSES published in 2019.

In the current contribution, we present our first results with an electrostatic ion trap which has been constructed at LKB (Laboratoire Kastler Brossel) in collaboration with the Weizmann institute. The electrostatic ion trap is composed of two coaxial electrostatic mirrors, working for charged particles in the same way as a Fabry-Perot interferome...

The full permanent magnet "supernanogan" type ECR (electron cyclotron resonance) ion source, SIMPA (Source d'Ions Multicharges de Paris) has been jointly operated by LKB (Laboratoire Kastler Brossel) and INSP (Institut des NanoSciences de Paris) since 2004. Since this time numerous projects have been started to use the extracted beam in atomic phys...
Article
A new experimental setup dedicated to highly charged ion trapping is presented in this Thesis. The final goal of this work is to perform lifetime measurement of metastable states produced by our ECR ion source. Lifetimes to be measured are in the range a few ms and more.
