Non-connected islands to the electric gird are often depending on oil-fueled power plants with high unit cost. A hybrid energy system with renewable resources such as wind and solar plants could reduce this cost and also offer more environmental friendly solutions. However, atmospheric processes are characterized by high uncertainty that does not p...

This report describes the Machine Translation task of the Covid-19 MLIA @ Eval initiative. The participants systems are described showing improvements when using multilingual models sharing all the constrained data among the language pairs in constrained option. Similar systems but adding in-domain or using big corpora show best results in unconstr...

Weather derivatives comprise efficient financial tools for managing hydrometeorological uncertainties in various markets. With ~46% utilization by the energy industry, weather derivatives are projected to constitute a critical element for dealing with risks of low and medium impacts –contrary to standard insurance contracts that deal with extreme e...

This paper presents SciPar, a new collection of parallel corpora created from openly available metadata of bachelor theses, master theses and doctoral dissertations hosted in institutional repositories, digital libraries of universities and national archives. We describe first how we harvested and processed metadata from 86, mainly European, reposi...

This paper presents a collection of parallel corpora generated by exploiting the COVID-19 related dataset of metadata created with the Europe Media Monitor (EMM) / Medical Information System (MediSys) processing chain of news articles. We describe how we constructed comparable monolingual corpora of news articles related to the current pandemic and...

Research on natural resource availability has shifted significantly towards more integrated concepts; with natural capital comprising the dominant one, incorporating all forms of utilizable natural resources. In our work we primarily introduce the concept of water capital as a pivotal form of natural capital with multiple benefits to ecosystem serv...

Many remote islands in Greece are not connected to the mainland energy grid and thus fully dependent on oil fired electricity generation in order to meet their energy demands. The fossil fuels needed are imported and subsequently, the remote islands are exposed both to the international prices of oil and the extra margin imposed by the local suppli...
