A new a-pyrone, i.e., cryptocrassinervione (1), and a new flavone glycoside, i.e., kaempferol-3-O-rhamnosyl-2-O-apiofuranoside (4), were isolated from EtOAc extract of Cryptocarya crassinervia leaves. Along with these compounds, two known flavone glycosides, namely afzelin (2) and quercitrin (3), were also isolated. The structures of the new compou...
Three cyclic diarylheptanoids, myricanol (1), myricanone (2), and porson (3), were isolated from Myrica javanica (Myricaceae). As a major component, myricanol (1) was obtained from dry powdered bark and twigs (up to 1.6%). Transformation of myricanol (1) afforded 5-prenylmyricanol (4) and 5-benzylmyricanol (5) in 84.5% and 65% yields, respectively....
Background
The fungus comb is a unique structure inside termites’ nests that facilitates the growth of Termitomyces sp. as a nutrient source for the termites. It is known to possess immunomodulatory properties that boost the immune system.
Aim
The objective of this study was to assess the impact of ethyl acetate extract of fungus comb (EAEFC) on t...
Witasari LD, Lizar DP, Florencia OM, Ramadhan A, Fiana NAO, Supriyadi S, Pratiwi SUT, Nandika D, Karlinasari L, Arinana A, Batubara I, Santoso D, Rachmayanti Y, Firmansyah D, Sudiana IK, Hertanto DM, Rachmayanti Y, Firmansyah D. 2023. Designing antimicrobial active packaging films based on chitosan plus fungus comb ethyl acetate extract from Indo-M...
The authors have recently investigated the chemical components and bioactivity of fungus comb from Macrotermes gilvus Hagen mounds. The ethyl acetate, methanol, and water extracts of the fungus comb contained active compounds which are preventing the growth of Aspergillus foeti-dus, one of the most economically important wood-staining fungi in Indo...
Friedel‐Crafts acylation of dipyrromethane with cinnamoyl chloride was conducted to obtain dicinnamoyl dipyrromethane compounds 3 and 4. Both compounds were subsequently oxidized by DDQ to produce dicinnamoyl dipyrromethene ligands (DC‐1 and DC‐2). A large bathochromic shift compared to dipyromethene (D) was observed at 95 nm for DC‐1 and 67 nm for...
Indonesian termites are one of the wealthiest biological resources considering their very high species diversity (300 species) and extensive geographical distribution in the Indonesian mainland. However, its potential as a source of bioactive compounds has not been fully explored. One of the endemic termite sub-families of Indonesian, Macrotermitin...
The embodiment of antimicrobial components into the food packaging material has the ability to prevent microbial contamination. Fungus comb could be an alternative source of natural antimicrobial agents. In this study, n-hexane, ethyl acetate, methanol, and water extracts from fungus comb isolated from Indo-malayan termite Macrotermes gilvus Hagen...
Recently, the architectural and physical properties of the fungus comb from subterranean termite Macrotermes gilvus Hagen (Isoptera: Termitidae) mounds had been studied and it is important to determine its chemical profile as well as to evaluate its anti-staining-fungi activity. The results showed that fungus comb of M. gilvus has a high crude ash...
Stacking is omnipresent not only in nature but in a wide variety of practical fields applied to our lives. Because of its importance in a performance of natural and artificial systems, such as light harvesting system and working layer in device, many researchers have put intensive effort into identifying its underlying nature. However, for the case...
Peripherally substituted antiaromatic naphthorosarins have been synthesized for the first time. The synthesis was accomplished by acid‐catalyzed condensation of naphthobipyrrole building blocks with aromatic aldehydes. The naphthobipyrrole building blocks were synthesized by simple oxidative coupling of the corresponding pyrrole substituted aromati...
Meso-ethynyl extended aryl-picket calix[4]pyrroles 2 and 3 are designed and synthesized by directly anchoring arylethynyl groups at diametrically opposed meso-positions. Critical roles of direct ethynyl linker are manifested through the...
Annulated, hexapyrrolic anti-aromatic rosarin, a β,β′-two-carbon bridged-(1.0.1.0.1.0)hexaphyrin derivatives are Huckel’s 24π antiaromatic system. These are also known to form stable one-electron reduced species 25π species upon exposure to the multiple protons. However, the general synthesis of peripherally substituted analogues were hurdled due t...
A series of carbazole–benzimidazole conjugates and corresponding BF2-complexes (BODIPYs) are synthesized and characterized. Carbazole–benzimidazole conjugates are synthesized by the condensation of 1-formyl carbazole and phenylene diamines in good yields. Various substituents are introduced into the benzimidazole moiety and subsequent reaction with...
The first case of double head-to-tail direct arylation of aromatic compounds and the unusual photophysical properties of the resulting 2,2a(1,5)b(1,7)-tetraazacyclopenta[hi]aceanthrylene are reported. This molecule, comprising of two imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine units, is antiaromatic due to the changes in the efficiency of π-electron ring current and it...
Photophysics of π-expanded analogs of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine, a well-known heterocyclic compound, have been experimentally and theoretically studied. Two regioisomeric systems differing only in arrangement of the benzene ring have shown different optical properties (electronic transition energies, fluorescence quantum yields and decay times). DFT c...
Anion-radical coupling of structurally diverse series of aromatic compounds possessing biaryl linkages led to seven fused, polycyclic heterocycles in reasonable yields. The yield of the key step (K, toluene, O2) depends on both electronic and steric factors. The whole strategy consists of just two steps starting from unsubstituted imidazo[1,2-a]pyr...
The dehydrogenative coupling of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine derivative has been achieved for the first time. In cases in which the most-electron-rich position of the electron-excessive heterocycle was blocked by a naphthalen-1-yl substituent, neither oxidative aromatic coupling nor reaction under Scholl conditions enabled the fusion of the rings. The on...
Rod-like π-expanded bis-imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines were designed and synthesized. Strategic placement of a central electron-poor unit at position C3 of the imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine core resulted in donor–acceptor–donor quadrupolar systems. We further demonstrated the applicability of the Ortoleva–King–Chichibabin tandem process in the preparation of com...
A library of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines was synthesized by using the Gevorgyan method and their linear and non-linear optical properties were studied. Derivatives that contained both electron-donating and electron-withdrawing groups at the 2 position were comprehensively investigated. Their emission quantum yield ranged between 0.2-0.7 and it was show...
