Das Thema Cloud Computing ist führenden Marktanalysten zufolge eines der wichtigsten IKT-Themen der nächsten Jahre. Fakt ist, dass Cloud Computing in den Unternehmen Einzug halten und sowohl Informationsinfrastrukturen als auch damit verbundene Geschäftsprozesse und -modelle verändern wird. Wissenschaft und Praxis sind daher gleichermaßen gefordert sich mit dieser neuen Technologie auseinanderzusetzen. Das Forschungsvorhaben zielt auf eine ganzheitliche Betrachtung von „Private Cloud" Infrastrukturen für den optimalen Unternehmenseinsatz ab. Im Projekt werden die mit neuer Technologie verbundenen wissenschafts-theoretischen Grundlagen aus ökonomischen, sozialen, organisatorischen sowie ökologischen Gesichtspunkten mit dem Ziel erforscht, die Diffusion und Akzeptanz der noch jungen Cloud Computing Technologie zu erklären und im interdisziplinären Unternehmenseinsatz optimal gestalten zu können. Neben der Adressierung von Wissenschaftstheorie und -methoden (zB: Diffusion of Innovation Theory, Technology Acceptance Model) besteht die technische Herausforderung in einer Optimierungsaufgabe hinsichtlich Lokation virtueller Maschinen (VMs), beobachteter Netzwerkkommunikation und zusätzlichen Faktoren wie beispielsweise Temperatur und Stromverbrauch. Aufgrund der verhältnismäßig geringen Anforderungen an die unternehmenseigene IKT, die hohe Skalierbarkeit und große Flexibilität ist das Thema Cloud Computing gerade auch für KMU von besonderem Interesse. Es werden daher im Forschungsvorhaben alle oberösterreichischen Unternehmen gleichermaßen angesprochen und Unternehmen ua. bei der Analyse von Anforderungen an Modelle und Methoden, Risikoanalyse und zur Evaluierung technischer Vorentwicklungen involviert.
