In 2015 - 2019 a series of 24 Green Workcamps was conceptualized and implemented at the division of Agricultural and horticultural education at Humboldt Universität zu Berlin. The Green Workcamps are extra-mural, out-of-school and out-of- university participatory experience-and design-based programs of vocation-oriented education. They are aimed at young people age 15 to 25 in transitional phases between formal education and professional life. The Green Workcamps are compact, self-contained formats of four to seven days duration. In the third-party funded projects “IGA-Workcamps Grüne Berufe” and “Trinational Green Workcamps” the suitability of workcamps as extra mural forms of agricultural education for sustainable development was studied. So far they were conducted on the premises of the international garden exhibition in Berlin and the Federal Garden Exihibition in Heilbronn 2016 - 2018 and as Trinational Workcamps in 2017 - 2019 at Sanremo (I). Angers (F), Heilbronn (D) and Berlin (D). 24 workcamps provided to more than 360 young people opportunities to learn working techniques and acquire competences of agriculture and related fields. On behalf of the COVID 19 Pandemic the organization of national and transnational Workcamps could not take place. Hopefully we are able to offer Green Workcamps in the year 2021. The projects are currently now in the evaluation phase. A second phase of implementation will follow with the project name “Green Workcamps” will start - so it will be possible - from the beginning of Autumn 202.
