Generar y analizar información relacionada con la herpetofauna, dentro de los límites planteados para el CCSP, incluyendo parques nacionales, y áreas protegidas públicas y privadas.
Promover la conservación de la diversidad de anfibios y reptiles en el CCSP en un trabajo conjunto con actores locales.
El proyecto se encuentra financiado por el Fondo de Alianzas para los Ecosistemas Críticos (CEPF), que es una iniciativa conjunta de la Agencia Francesa de Desarrollo, Conservación Internacional, Unión Europea, Fondo para el Medio Ambiente Mundial, Gobierno de Japón, y el Banco Mundial. La meta fundamental del fondo CEPF es asegurar que la sociedad civil se dedique a conservar la diversidad biológica.
El proyecto pretende mejorar el estado de protección de siete especies amenazadas de anfibios, presentes en el Área de Conservación Biológica (ACB) Abra de Zamora y sus alrededores. Para ello se ha realizado un trabajo de revisión bibliográfica y recopilación de datos de campo obtenidos previamente por investigadores del grupo EcoSs Lab de la UTPL a partir de lo cual se hizo un análisis de idoneidad de hábitat donde potencialmente pueden existir las especies objetivo. Con la información de este análisis, se han seleccionado sitios de muestreo en donde se han iniciado búsquedas sistemáticas de: Atelopus nepiozomus, Atelopus podocarpus, Gastrotheca psychrophila, Pristimantis balionotus, Pristimantis percultus, Rhinella amabilis y Telmatobius cirrhacelis.
Al finalizar el proyecto, en mediados de 2020, se entregará un Plan de Acción para la Conservación de Anfibios en el ACB Abra de Zamora a diversos actores y tomadores de decisiones vinculados al tema, entre ellos: representantes de la sociedad civil, propietarios de predios, autoridades locales, investigadores locales, ONGs, Ministerio del Ambiente, Dirección Nacional de Biodiversidad, UICN, INABIO.
Para fortalecer el equipo de trabajo, contamos con el apoyo de la fundación Naturaleza y Cultura Internacional (NCI), que constituye un socio clave para el desarrollo de actividades que contribuyen al éxito del proyecto.
