Habitat fragmentation and connectivity loss pose significant threats to biodiversity at both local and landscape levels. Strategies to increase ecological connectivity and preserve strong connectivity are important for dealing with the potential threat of habitat degradation. Various metrics have been used to measure (i.e., quantify) landscape comp...
Habitats have been undergoing significant changes due to environmental processes and human impact that lead into habitat fragmentation and connectivity loss. To improve quality habitats and maintain ecological connectivity, elements that improve the connectivity of habitats need to be identified. To meet this goal, finding optimal pathways location...
Incorporating risk analysis into physical planning is increasingly necessary to anticipate and take appropriate measures to prevent and defend against disasters. This paper extends the concept of carrying capacity by studying two models: an ecosystem-bringing capacity model and a territorial model of construction on rural land. A climate change var...
Climate change has intensified the effects of habitat fragmentation in many ecosystems, particularly exacerbated in riparian habitats. Therefore, there is an urgent need to identify keystone connectivity spots to ensure long-term conservation and sustainable management of riparian systems as they play a crucial role for landscape con-nectivity. Thi...
This study examines the effectiveness of five deep learning models-ViTb-19, SwinV2-t, VGG-16, ResNet-50, and DenseNet-121-in distinguishing different vegetation types in the protected grasslands of Castilla y León region, Spain, following the guidelines of the Natura 92/43/CEE directive. Among the models, ResNet-50 achieved the highest weighted ove...
The Mediterranean Diet is a highly sustainable diet, and legumes are among the products that best characterize this concept. This study evaluates the environmental sustainability of the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) legume Phaseolus vulgaris L. cultivated in the Asturias region, Spain. This study evaluates the effectiveness of an ecological bridge, constructed in 2020 in the Zeytinler neighborhood, as a solution to mitigate wild-boar–vehicle collisions (WVCs) on the Izmir-Çeşme motorway. The Zeytinler Ecological Bridge was monitored and analyzed for wildlife crossings, particularly by wild boars. Between August 202...
Erosion by water is the main cause of land degradation. Landscapes degraded by erosion need to be restored in many respects, and particularly in terms of ecosystem services. From an economic and management perspective, care is needed to select priority areas and determine the means to be applied to restore them. Globally, the model most commonly us...
Walkability is a modern concept that has become important in recent years due to the doubtless effects it has on aspects such as health and wellbeing, sustainable development, climate change, and tourism. It is necessary, therefore, that urban development strategies aim to achieve walkable cities. The main objective of this study is to define a met...

People inherently assess landscapes by creating spontaneous aesthetic liking judgments based on the surrounding stimuli. To understand these judgements objectively, use may be made of the fluency theory of aesthetic pleasure (the psychological processes through which people experience beauty). This study aims to predict people’s visual aesthetic pr...
Forecasting the distribution patterns of invasive weed species under changing climate conditions is critical for the early identification of especially vulnerable regions and the implementation of effective preventive measures. As a consequence of the exponential increase of the demographic and technological development of the human being, conflicts with the natural environment are accentuated. Pollution or the loss of biodiversity represent examples of problems that we must face to maintain the balance between the evolution of human beings and the conservation of nature....
The Arabian Sand Gazelle (Gazella marica Thomas, 1897) is endemic to the Middle East and its populations in South-eastern Anatolia in Turkey are in danger of extinction. Here, we focus on its protected habitats in the Mesopotamian steppes and examine how to create connectivity between habitats under changing climate conditions. We
use ecological ni...
The Lycian salamanders consist of seven allopatric endangered and endemic species restricted to Mediterranean Turkey and some adjacent Aegean islands. Mega forest fires occurred consecutively over a prolonged period of time in the distribution areas of six of the species in 2021, leading to habitat fragmentation and habitat loss. In this study, we...
The effects of climate change on species can influence the delicate balance in ecosystems. For this reason, conservation planning needs to take account of connectivity and the related ecological processes within the framework of climate change. In this study, we focus on the change in the ecological connectivity of the Lebanon cedar (Cedrus libani...
There is an urgent need to conduct scientific research in order to comprehend the impact of climate change on the geographical distribution of species that constitute an ecological niche.
