Transport interchanges can be seen as nodes where people transfer from one mode to another, and also as a place to stay and use facilities, services and waiting areas. Reducing transfer disruption in multimodal trips is a key element for ensuring seamless mobility in big cities. Based on previous research (Hernández and Monzón, 2016), this paper ai...

This study evaluated the positive or negative impact (health halo effect) of health messages on food choices and predisposition towards healthy habits of Spanish adolescents.

Men appear to be more sceptical towards climate change and less pro-environmental than women. On the other hand, priming certain values (e.g., wealth) undermines support for pro-environmental behaviours. Based on these findings, we explored whether situational materialism may amplify the differences between women and men in scepticism towards clima...
The current research investigates the effect of a type of intergroup contact that has rarely been studied to date, class-based contact, on one’s personal contribution to inequality. We conducted two studies with middle and upper class individuals. We first longitudinally examined whether positive contact with working-class people reduces contributi...
Mobility as a Service (MaaS) is expected to significantly change our mobility patterns. However, it is still not clear who will accept this new mobility paradigm and how it will affect travellers’ behaviours. In this study, we identify a set of attitudinal and personality factors relevant for MaaS adoption based on a survey comprising 1,000 respond...
This research analyzes whether authoritarianism increases support for police abuse and if the effect is greater in men than in women. In addition, it explores whether fusion with the police, a predictor of extreme behavior, can mediate that effect. An exploratory correlational study was carried out with 149 Spaniards, in which two levels of police...
In five experiments, we examined the stereotypes, emotions, and behavioural intentions associated with a Spanish working‐class group, known as chonis. We described a student (Experiments 1–3) or job candidate (Experiments 4–5) and presented participants with a picture showing a woman characterized either as choni or posh (an upper‐class group, Expe...
After the outbreak of the economic crisis in 2008, anti-austerity parties in South Europe have gained prominence and dramatically transformed the political landscape. In Spain, the emergence of PODEMOS, a left-wing, anti-austerity party, has jeopardized the traditional two-party system. However, little is known about the psychological reasons that...
This work presents the results of a qualitative study of the rating of the
bicycle as the transport mode to travel to the workplace. Twenty-one semistructured
interviews were performed in two Spanish cities, Vitoria-Gasteiz
and Madrid, with different cycling infrastructures and percentages of bicycle
usage. The results were categorized and interpre...
The influence of information about travel time variability, personal benefits, or environmental damage from cars or public transportation on commuting mode choice (car or subway) is examined in an experimental study. In addition to these experimentally manipulated variables, the influence of prior attitudes towards the subway was verified. The samp...
The goal of this study is to analyse the differences in attitudes towards habitual modes of transportation among users of public and private transportation. The explanatory capacity of attitudes when determining the mode choice, along with the structural and sociodemographic factors, are also verified. The study was performed in three Spanish citie...
To develop effective cycling policies, decision makers and administrators should know the factors influencing the use of the bicycle for daily mobility. Traditional discrete choice models tend to be based on variables such as time and cost, which do not sufficiently explain the choice of the bicycle as a mode of transportation. Because psychologica...
Cycling Habits and Other Psychological Variables Affecting Commuting by Bicycle in the City of Madrid
The goal of this work is to analyze a battery of measures to alleviate the problems derived from urban transportation and to study the diverse responses to such measures as a function of participants' attitudinal profile. Two hundred and eighty-six drivers completed a questionnaire. Our results show that people prefer incentive actions and they opp...
