Project
The main objective is to transfer the knowledge of contemporary research in political geography into didactic materials for teaching geography and socio-scientific subjects at secondary schools. Three sub-objectives have been identified: 1) to create a replicable way, how acquaint the school community (teachers, pupils) with actual geographic research findings on topics of local, national and global nature 2) to create information and didactic materials for teachers (and future teachers) to teach contemporary local, national and global political-geographic themes 3) to promote geographic education and to contribute to a positive perception of the importance of geography among the general public as a field that can interpret current issues and suggest possible solutions.
Project
The project will analyze the current state of home education in the Czech Republic in a comparison with the situation in abroad. This includes the study of its most important aspects, including the following: 1. Organizational / institutional aspects (current state of legislation; relationship between families and schools; the role of homeschooling teaching groups, etc.); 2. Social / economic aspects (family size and structure; parents’ education; parent’s economic situation; parents’ value system, etc.); 3. Educational / didactic aspects (methods and forms of education; subjects taught; educators’ characteristics; number of lessons devoted to each subject; learning schedule; didactic aspects of education, etc.); 4. Social / psychological aspects (parents’ reasons for choosing homeschooling; socialization issues; homeschoolers’ ability to integrate into the school later on; the homeschooled children’s self-perception, etc.).
Project
The proposed project will focus on the study of integration of the children of non-nationals into Czech society at the level of elementary school. It will seek to answer three main research questions: 1. What the language skills in Czech language of children of foreigners in Czech primary schools according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages? 2. How the children of foreigners make progress in the acquisition of the Czech language in both receptive and productive language skills, and which factors influence this process? 3. Do the children’s language skills affect their social interactions within the class? Which factors other than language skills affect this phenomenon? To accomplish its goals project team will develop diagnostic tests of the linguistic competence in Czech of the children of foreigners, will apply these diagnostic tests in testing of sample of pupils at Czech elementary schools and analyse results. This will be supplemented by realization of sociometric tests in selected classes and interviews with pupils.
