Prospective longitudinal studies mainly conclude on a causal role of e-cigarettes in the initiation of cigarettes in flagrant contradiction with conclusions drawn from epidemiology and other studies showing a sharp decline in cigarette use in parallel with the spread of e-cigarette use. This systematic review explores the reasons for t...

Recent data show an interaction between COVID-19 and nicotine and indicate the need for an assessment of transdermal nicotine use in non-smokers. Assessments have been conducted into the short-term cognitive effects of nicotine and into diseases such as Parkinson's, Tourette syndrome, ADHD or ulcerative colitis.

Introduction:
Preliminary reports indicated that smokers could be less susceptible to the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes Covid-19. However, once infected an increased risk of severe disease is reported. We investigated the association between smoking and COVID-19 during an outbreak of the disease on a naval vessel.

Result:
The taste for pre-smokers and learners and nicotine for smokers are main phy...
Tobacco use is not just about manufactured cigarettes. Rolling tobacco, highly prized in the wake of price increases, is estimated to carry more toxic agents than its counterpart. This study shows that the use of cigar, pipe, cigarillos and narghile also leads to a cohort of pathologies similar to or more than what is known for smoking single cigar...
Introduction
Public-health actors were alarmed by the progression of experimentation of e-cigarettes in different countries since 2012 because of fear that they would be a gateway to tobacco use. In Europe, there is now near a consensus that ecigarettes need supervision as required by the TPD (control of products and advertising) or not (sales to m...
A group of 11 French medical experts has developed guidelines through a Delphi progressive consensus about smoking management at the e-cigarette era. The lack of scientific data about e-cigarettes led the experts to set out recommendations, mainly based on clinical practice while waiting for scientific validations. To confirm that the throat hit varies with e-liquid nicotine concentration and voltage of e-cigarette and assess its influence on the desire to switch from smoking tobacco to e-cigarettes use, we organized a blind test in a group of smoker students.
Methods: 35 student's smokers tested five e-liquid (0-18 mg/ml nicotine) on the same cigarette adjus...

The use of the electronic cigarette is now common, but the characteristic of its use remains largely unknown.
Method: We have analysed the parameters of 1 million puffs recorded by a connected e-cigarette (Smokio®).
Results: 2,001 to 23,123 puffs (median=5,405) had been produced by each of the 185 users during the 116 days of the study period. Th...

The campaign against smoking reduces lung cancer mortality. Even after a diagnosis of bronchial cancer, smoking cessation resulted in a decrease in mortality and reduced treatment complications.
In previous studies of the smoke from regular cigarettes and water pipes, we measured aerosol particle sizes in three streams; S1, inhaled by the smoker, S2, released by the device itself and S3, exhaled by the smoker. We used an electrostatic low-pressure impactor (ELPI), giving particle size distributions in real time and calculated median diamet...

Lobbying on tobacco in France
Lobbying by cigarette manufacturers in favour of tobacco products has been one of the main vectors for the development and persistence of smoking dependency. The efficiency of this vector in spreading disease is dependent on the response of politicians who oppose these lobbies. France has experienced two five-year mand...

Methods: The authors added a question in 2012 on e-cigarette in the yearly survey on tobacco consumption in Paris schoolchildren. The study is conducted on a randomly selecte...
Tobacco prevention is the most effective prevention of cancer. Daily smoking promotes tumor progression, increases the risk of second cancer and decreases survival. The diagnosis of smoking and support for cessation and preventing recurrence is an integral part of cancer treatment. Smoking increases side effects of chemotherapy and surgery and redu...
Tobacco smoking has a significant impact on the risk of tuberculosis and the mortality of the disease. There is a strong dose-response relationship both in terms of quantity and duration of smoking. Latent tuberculous infection and tuberculosis disease are different stages of the same infectious process but the relation between smoking and the risk...
Outdoor secondhand smoke (SHS) concentrations are usually lower than indoor concentrations, yet some studies have shown that outdoor SHS levels could be comparable to indoor levels under specific conditions. The main objectives of this study were to assess levels of SHS exposure in terraces and other outdoor areas of hospitality venues and to evalu...

Almost all smokers accept that smoking is harmful and they would benefit their health by stopping, but continue smoking despite this (1). Interventions by clinicians can encourage and help many of these smokers to try to stop, but only a minority will try and few will succeed (2). Some smokers suspend their smoking if there is a good reason. For ex...
