The great cormorants' (Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis) habit of gathering in roosts in winter makes it easier to monitor the wintering populations. In Campania region (Southern Italy) winter roosts have been counted since the 1980s. However, since January 1998 the monitoring has been standardized and made constant over the years. Therefore, there is...
Analysis of trends in the number of individuals monitored in January in winter roosts over twenty years old of Cormorants Phalacrocorax carbo in Campania (Southern Italy). The availability of time series greater than or equal to 20 years for 5 roosts of Cormorant Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis located in Campania (Southern Italy) led to researching t...
The study outlines the density and distribution of the Rollers nesting in the province of Caserta. The focus is on the scarce fidelity in choosing the reproductive sites, categorizing the ruins where this species nests based on the fidelity of occupation and highlighting the numerous abandonments of the sites. The study reports the pressures (distu...
The study of trend and periodicity of the Ferruginous Duck wintering population in Campania can provide useful information for the management of a species with a non-optimal conservation status. At the same time it can indicate a reference value of periodicity for those who want to investigate this aspect, for this species or other birds wintering...

Selection of nesting sites by European Roller Coracias garrulus in the province of Caserta The authors have been studying a European Roller population breeding in the province of Caserta, in the Volturno and Garigliano plain, since 2012. The Rollers breed in ruins of tuff buildings belonging to the Opera Nazionale Combattenti, an Italian Veteran's...
Analysis of the selection index, the niche breadth and the niche overlap of 10 species of wintering ducks in 11 wetland areas of the Campania region between January 2003 and 2015 revealed that the distribution of the species in the examined sites was not casual. In fact, each species actively chose their wintering area. Using selection index, we we...
First Glossy Ibis Plegadis falcinellus nesting in Campania The first nesting of Glossy Ibis in Campania occurred in 2014. Three nests were found, but it is possible that the breeding pairs were as many as five.
Distribution and reproductive ecology of Roller Coracias garrulus in the province of Caserta: first year of study. The Roller breeds in the province of Caserta, in the alluvial plain between Volturno and Garigliano rivers. The area is characterized by farmlands cultivated with alternating fodder, corn, and woody cultivations in low percentage. The...

Of the 15 species of ducks observed in the wetlands in the province of Caserta in the period 2003-2014, 8 were found to be regular and wintering: on these, statistical analyses were carried out to assess the existence of increasing or decreasing trends. The data revealed that five species, Gad-wall, Teal, Mallard, Northern Shov-eler and Ferruginous...
Human disturbance is one of the factors that reduce biodiversity. This study analyzes its effects on bird communities in four wetlands along the coast northwest of Naples. The community indexes used for the research (S, Shannon, NP/P, Species listed in the Italian Red Data Book) are inversely correlated to the disturbance index ID.
