Question
I am tired of reading titles such as "qualitative research in education", "qualitative research in sociology", "qualitative research in psychology"... so as if qualitative research would be a totally different thing depending on the subject. I am nog going to be politically correct today, but after many years researching, I believe that subject-specific research methods ar a fallacy which Kuhn and Feyerabend would have complained on if they were alive. That of existing "different traditions" in research methodologies for each discipline is to me a mistake; we should say, instead, that there are different research traditions that can be used in each discipline. For example, I believe that a fully interpretativistic research based on phenomenology is as useful to investigate within Psychology, as a fully experimental research is for investigating in education. This fact might be a result of researchers wanting to be owners of research methodologies in their disciplines, for 1) themselves not being critized on their use of the methodologies and 2) for controlling the ways for researching in each scientific field. What do you think?
