Introduction
My research is driven by an intense love and respect for the ocean, its unique habitats and amazing wildlife. As a surfer, diver and naturalist, I have dedicated my career to studying the structure and functioning of coastal marine ecosystems (mangroves, seagrass, saltmarsh and kelp forests). I have held research positions in Australia, France and Brazil, where I have employed a wide range of approaches (spatial ecology, stable isotopes and experimental biology) to improve the understanding of issues affecting the coastal environment. My current work at the CSIRO focuses on blue carbon research across the Indo-Pacific region, where I work as part of an interdisciplinary team to raise awareness of the ecological and societal importance of coastal wetland ecosystems.
