Understanding how technological change occurs, especially in smallholder contexts of sub-Saharan Africa, is essential to catalyze structural change and improve livelihoods. Extending the perspectives of comprehending the factors influencing technological changes is one such vital research aspect. We collected retrospective data and applied sequenti...
The challenges to agroecological transitions are not the same for all farmers and implementation of agroecological practices in different locations could yield different results. With this consideration, this study was conducted in Aba-Garima watershed in northwestern Ethiopia to characterize the structure and activities of farming households and a...

The dependence of smallholder farmers on forest resources for their sustenance and livelihoods is a major driver of deforestation and degradation of forest resources in tropical countries. Understanding the socio-economic drivers that aggravate the extraction and overexploitation of forest products is vital for designing effective forest conservati...
Reducing post harvest losses is a central task to ensure food security and increase
income of smallholder farmers as well as facilitate food availability to local and
international markets. Maize is one of the major food crops produced in Ethiopia

Sustainable management of communal grazing lands in Ethiopia is crucial to sustain livestock productivity and reduce land degradation. This study was conducted in Dera district, Ethiopia, to assess local communities’ perceptions of the degradation and their attitudes on the management of communal grazing lands. Household surveys, group discussions,...
Bahir Dar Agricultural Mechanization and Food Science Research Center (BAMFSRC) adapted three small scale mechanization technologies that help improve livestock productivity. These technologies (baler, feed chopper and milk churn) were scaled out and demonstrated to farmers in West Gojjam Zone of Amhara region. Feedbacks were collected from sample...
In the Ethiopian highlands, church forests have a substantial contribution to landscape restoration, and conservation of endangered indigenous tree species and biodiversity. However, the environmental and economic benefits of church forests are declining due to a combination of economic, environmental, and cultural factors. This study was conducted...
The post harvest loss of potato in Ethiopia is more than 25% which includes harvesting loss. To minimize the harvesting loss, providing appropriate equipment (technology) is essential. As a result, a study was carried out to develop and select suitable potato digger for small holder potato producers. Comparisons were conducted on three types of pot...
The potential benefits of appropriate agricultural mechanization for the transformation of rural ethiopia
