The prevalence of intestinal helminths infections among primary school children in Calabar South Local Government Area, Cross Rivers State, Nigeria, was investigated. Out of 100 stool samples analysed from 5 primary schools in the area, 88 (88 %) were positive for different helminthiases. The number of pupils examined in each school was 20. Among t...
Lipid parameters were investigated in albino rats of different groups after administration of 0.0mg/ml, 25.0mg/ml, 50.0mg/ml, 100.0mg/ml and 200.0mg/ml of aqueous extract of Hibiscus sabdariffa. The results obtained show that total cholesterol, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C...
The bacteriological quality of swimming pool water in Port Harcourt Metropolis was investigated. Ten (10) swimming pools were examined for microbial quality. Out of the 10 swimming pools, 4 (2, 4, 7 and 9) had bacterial isolates of 40 (100%). Swimming pools 2, 4, 7 and 9 had the bacterial isolates of 10 (25%), 8 (20%), 10 (25%) and 12 (30%), respec...
Petroleum is a thick, flammable, yellow-to-black mixture of gaseous, liquid, and solid hydrocarbons that occur naturally beneath the earth's surface, its products are got from fractional distillation of crude. These products are normally dispensed from reservoir by fuel attendants to motorist and individuals that needs these products for domestic u...
This study characterised Escherichia coli isolated from Creek Road/Bonny Estuary using molecular
techniques. One hundred and twenty (120) water samples were investigated for the presence of E.
coli in Creek Road/Bonny Estuary. Most Probable Number (MPN) Technique, Eijkman test and

This study aimed to explore the health risks associated with waste scavengers, commonly called "rag pickers," while also assessing the levels of microbial contamination found in waste materials. The findings provide valuable insights that can help enhance the safety and well-being of these individuals.
This study was conducted to determine the presence of Escherichia coli in fish and shellfish, with the goal of enhancing our understanding of potential health risks associated with these seafood products.
This study examined the presence of Escherichia coli in Andoni River, revealing that the river serves as a reservoir for the bacterium. All isolates were subsequently screened for resistance genes associated with various E. coli pathotypes. The analysis confirmed the presence of these resistance genes, highlighting potential public health concerns.
The findings from this study highlight the potential of the Ocimum gratissimum plant as a valuable medicinal resource, demonstrating its antibacterial activity against a variety of bacterial species. This suggests that it could be effectively integrated into the treatment of diseases caused by such bacteria.
Background: The study is aimed at determining the prevalence rate of HIV/ Hepatitis co-infection amongst women of reproductive age.

Although, water is very important for humans and animals, it is considered a vehicle for the propagation and dissemination of human associated bacteria. In Nigeria, some rural communities directly use untreated water from rivers and streams for drinking, swimming and other domestic purposes. Unfortunately, in the same rural communities, toilets are...
Pollution of water bodies in Nigeria occurs in both rural and urban areas. In the rural areas, some residents drink water from rivers and streams. These streams and rivers are usually polluted by sewage, human and animal excreta, agricultural runoff, oil spills, and organic substances from dumps located very close to them. Pollutants found in water...
Water bodies can be polluted through different means, including microorganisms. This study was carried out to analyze physicochemical parameters, heavy metals concentrations, and bacterial pathogens in Andoni River, Rivers State, using 72, 18, and 120 water samples, respectively. Physical and chemical characteristics were examined on a periodic and...

Microbial degradation of solid waste implies the breaking down of organic components of waste into inorganic form. The study is aimed at investigating the health risk of waste scavengers (rag pickers). Samples were collected from 80 rag pickers and 20 control subjects (Students) were used. Samples from the rag pickers such as sputum, nasal swap and...
Water bodies can be polluted through different means and by microorganisms. Although, oil pollution occurs when oil from roads and parking lots is carried in runoff into water bodies, intentional and accidental oil spills are also sources of oil pollution. Oil pollution and other chemicals are sources of heavy metals, which could be carcinogenic an...

Assessment of Physiochemical and Bacteriological Qualities of Borehole Water in Gokana Local Government Area, Rivers State, Nigeria.
Pollution of water bodies with waste effluents, microorganisms (arising from building of toilets on water bodies), siting of waste dumps close to water bodies and heavy metals (from bunkering activities and oil through spills) have been recorded in Nigeria. Polluted water contents may cause changes in microorganisms, which could lead to mutation in...
Contamination or pollution of water bodies by human and animal excreta, agricultural runoff or by sewage is the greatest danger associated with water for drinking, swimming and other domestic purposes. Apart from the above, water bodies could also be polluted by chemical pollutants, which result from oil spills and bunkering activities. The latter...
In Port Harcourt, Nigeria, most of the fruit juices sold in restaurants are not pasteurised and this business is on the increase because of high demands by consumers as fruit juices are nutritious. Objects, such as dishes, knives and other fomites could contaminate the fruits and make them unsafe for consumption. Hence, the assessment of fruit juic...

Back in the day, many African societies depended on surface water, such as rivers, streams and others, for drinking. However, because of challenges of polluted surface water associated with diseases, such as sleeping sickness, guinea worm, river blindness and others, people resorted to digging of boreholes. Since then, digging of boreholes has been...

Which bacterium is capable of withstanding doses of radiation that are several times higher than human cells can tolerate?
Local and international conferences.
I want to use the medium (CHROMagar ECC media for E coli and Coliform) for my research, where it will be very beneficial to me as it would allow the growth of only E. coli and other Coliform. I would be very grateful if you could give me an information about it and a reliable source where I could purchase it.
Thank you!
