Description
- I conducted my research on high achieving students in Germany - I did a review on how they are currently identified by research, I used latent growth curves to model their development and possible Matthew effects in secondary school, and I did a comprehensive analysis of the high-achievers' social integration in their school classes.

Background: Prior research has documented the pervasive influence that peers can exert on adolescents’ lives. However, knowledge on whether adolescents’ perceptions of the quality of the teacher’s instruction are also prone to peer influences is lacking.
Method: This study (N = 248 German adolescents) used longitudinal social network analysis to in...
In recent years, there has been a growing emphasis on the importance of open data and data sharing in scientific research (Nosek et al., 2015; van der Zee & Reich, 2018). However, in the educational field, access to FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable) data remains a significant challenge (Wilkinson et al., 2016). This special c...
Early ability tracking increases inequalities in education. It has been proposed that the awareness of negative school-track-related stereotypes contributes to educational inequalities, as stereotype awareness interferes with students’ abilities to thrive, particularly those in lower, stigmatized tracks. The present study tested this assumption in...
Reproducible research and open science practices have the potential to accelerate scientific progress by allowing others to reuse research outputs, and by promoting rigorous research that is more likely to yield trustworthy results. However, these practices are uncommon in many fields, so there is a clear need for training that helps and encourages...
Classrooms are social arenas, and during adolescence, the importance of peer relations peaks. Prior research has documented the pervasive influence that peers can exert on many aspects of adolescents’ lives, including their academic outcomes. However, knowledge on whether adolescents’ perceptions of their teacher and the quality of the teacher’s in...
Across disciplines, researchers increasingly recognize that open science and reproducible research practices may accelerate scientific progress by allowing others to reuse research outputs and by promoting rigorous research that is more likely to yield trustworthy results. While initiatives, training programs, and funder policies encourage research...
Early ability tracking increases inequalities in education. It has been proposed that the awareness of negative school-track-related stereotypes contributes to educational inequalities as they particularly hinder the thriving of students in lower, stigmatized tracks. The present study tested this assumption in a sample of 3,880 German secondary sch...
Prior research has found that student achievement is positively related to students’ social standing in class. However, negative stereotypes about high academic achievers prevail among secondary school students, suggesting that higher achievers might be less well-integrated socially. These stereotypes especially target academically high-achieving b...
Parents play a critical role for their children’s academic development. However, little is known about the link between parental role construction for educational involvement (i.e., parents’ beliefs of whether they should be involved in their child’s education) and educational outcomes in early adolescence. This study therefore investigated relatio...
The Matthew effect hypothesis of academic development predictsthat students with higher initial achievement will develop further skillsat a faster rate resulting in cumulative advantages. Prior research hasfocused on the development of reading competence in primary school. Toextend this research, we used a sample of N = 1,010 German students inGrad...

Purpose: Building on the Conservation of Resources theory, this paper examined the unique and interactive associations of negative and positive work-to-family spillover (NWFS and PWFS, respectively) at the individual and organizational level with hotel managers' work exhaustion and satisfaction, beyond job demands and supervisors' leadership style....
Previous research has documented associations between negative and positive work-family spillover and physical health. Using an effort-recovery model, the study tested the hypothesis that engagement in greater leisure-time physical activity would facilitate recovery processes that buffer the negative health effects of increasing work-family spillov...
Previous research has documented cross-sectional associations between negative and positive work-family spillovers and physical health. Using an effort-recovery model, we hypothesized that engagement in greater leisure-time physical activity would facilitate recovery processes that buffer the negative health effects of increasing work-family spillo...
