Past broadband adoption initiatives underscored common wisdom: “We cannot manage what we cannot accurately measure”, “Trust but verify”. Self-reported Federal Communications Commission data has been notoriously unreliable or lacking granularity and that led to an overoptimistic perception of the quality and coverage of broadband services. Data coll...

Despite increasing deployment of software-defined networks (SDN), little is yet known about how to actually manage such kind of networks. When service degradation (generically termed here 'trouble') happens, the first step is to localise under-performing network paths ('troubleshooting'). SDN-RADAR gives a novel approach to ease large network troub...
Software-defined deployments are growing into data center and enterprise network infrastructures. The typical promises of software-defined networks (SDN) are improved time for market, decreased risk and operational costs for services, flexibility and unified management. However, little is known and shared about how to actually manage an SDN network...
Apparatus, methods and computer programs enable carrying service insertion architecture data plane packets in IPv4 or IPv6 networks by packaging destination addresses using IPv6 mechanisms. For example, a data processing apparatus is configured for receiving, from a service broker, a service label and an Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) address o...
In one embodiment, a Home Agent receives a Mobile IP registration request from a group member, where the group member is a Mobile Node. The Home Agent generates a mobility binding for the group member that associates the group member with a care-of address, wherein the group member is a member of one or more groups. The Home Agent generates a Mobil...
The ferromagnetic ground state of a Kondo lattice with a low concentration of conduction electrons is ferromagnetic. Assuming the existence of disorder in the Fermi liquid of the conduction electrons we showed that the ferromagnetic state can be suppressed by the effect of the spin fluctuations of the disordered Fermi liquid.
A frequent question I hear about Communications, and about ACM publishing in general, involves its access model.
One fundamental aspect of any IP communications infrastructure is its addressing plan. With its new address architecture and allocation policies, the introduction of IPv6 into a network means that network designers and operators need to reconsider their existing approaches to network addressing. Lack of guidelines on handling this aspect of network...
This paper examines the economical impact of IPv6, Internet Protocol's next generation. Technically, IPv6 represents an upgrade, an evolution that offers the resources necessary for deeper and wider market penetration of the IP technology, to support the needs of a global economy, to build new products and new services. Politically and economically...
Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) [1] has been widely deployed in both service provider and enterprise networks alike. The main drivers for deploying an MPLS based forwarding mechanism for IPv4 include Layer 2 [2] and Layer 3 [3] Virtual Private Networks, and Traffic Engineering [4] and Fast Reroute [5]. The protocol transparency of MPLS infras...
Over the paste decade, IPv6 community's efforts to promote the next generation of the IP protocol revolved around generating business models that would justify the migration costs. The context, a depleting global address pool, and the target, global services, missed on one interesting opportunity for IPv6. Larger IP Service Provider and Enterprise...
The next generation of IP and the broadband networks are very well matched to support and stimulate each other's growth. Of all IP infrastructures deployed today, broadband networks are the first to experience the constraints of both private and global IPv4 address space. These challenges make IPv6 an immediate necessity. At the same time, IPv6 off...
An essential, comprehensive, and practical guide to IPv6 concepts, service implementation, and interoperability in existing IPv4 environmentsAfter completing Deploying IPv6 Networks, you will: Understand the current state of IPv6 technologies and services Understand the IPv6 features as they are applied in service deployments Be prepared with guide...
Measurements of thermal conductivity versus temperature over a broad range of doping in ${\mathrm{YBa}}_{2}{\mathrm{Cu}}_{3}{\mathrm{O}}_{6+x}$ and ${\mathrm{HgBa}}_{2}{\mathrm{Ca}}_{n$-${}1}{\mathrm{Cu}}_{n}{\mathrm{O}}_{2n+2+$\delta${}}(n=1,2,3)$ suggest that small domains of localized holes develop for hole concentrations near $p=1/8.$ The data...
Measurements of thermal conductivity versus temperature and magnetic field are reported for perovskite manganites that exhibit ferromagnetic (FM), charge-ordering (CO), antiferromagnetic, and/or structural phase transitions. The data reveal a dominant lattice contribution to the heat conductivity with κâ¼1-2 W/mK near room temperature. The rather...
We present a study of the doping dependence of the superconducting-state enhancement of thermal conductivity, kappa, in polycrystalline HgBa_2Ca_n-1Cu_nO_2(n+1)+delta, n=1, 2, 3. The doping level is characterized by the planar hole concentration p inferred from thermopower measurements for each specimen following successive reducing anneals. We use...
A systematic study of the temperature and oxygen-doping dependence of thermal conductivity (κ) and thermoelectric power (S) in polycrystal YBa2Cu3O6+x is reported for compositions spanning the phase diagram (0

We present extensive, systematic doping dependent studies of thermal
conduction in YBasb2Cusb3Osb{6+x} (YBCO) and
HgBasb2Casb{n-1}Cusb{n}Osb2sb{(n+1)+delta} (n = 1,2,3). The doping level
of the specimens p (hole concentration per planar Cu site), was
determined from thermoelectric power (S) measurements, and it was
modified by thermal annealing. Th...
The thermal conductivity of polycrystalline YBa_2Cu_3O_6+x is investigated systematically across the phase diagram (0= 0.45). ^1 J. .L. Cohn, Phys. Rev. B 53, No. 2 (1996).
The imaginary part of the self-energy of a two-dimensional Fermi system interacting with bosonic excitations has been calculated analytically and numerically. The result shows a marginal Fermi liquid behavior. The model can be a reasonable approach for studying the marginal behavior of a two-dimensional Millis-Monien-Pines phenomenological model.
