In the hydrodynamic framework of heavy-ion collisions, elliptic flow, $v_2$, is sensitive to the quadrupole deformation, $\beta$, of the colliding ions. This enables one to test whether the established knowledge on the low-energy structure of nuclei is consistent with collider data from high-energy experiments. We derive a formula based on generic...
In heavy ion collisions, elliptic flow $v_2$ and radial flow, characterized by event-wise average transverse momentum $[p_{\mathrm{T}}]$, are related to the shape and size of the overlap region, which are sensitive to the shape of colliding atomic nuclei. The Pearson correlation coefficient between $v_2$ and $[p_{\mathrm{T}}]$, $\rho_2$, was found...
In the hydrodynamic model description of heavy ion collisions, the elliptic flow $v_2$ and triangular flow $v_3$ are sensitive to the quadrupole deformation $\beta_2$ and octupole deformation $\beta_3$ of the colliding nuclei. The relations between $v_n$ and $\beta_n$ have recently been clarified and were found to follow a simple parametric form. T...
In high-energy heavy-ion collisions, the energy density profile of the produced quark-gluon plasma and its space-time dynamics are sensitive to the shape and radial profiles of the nuclei, described by the collective nuclear structure parameters including quadrupole deformation $\beta_2$, octupole deformation $\beta_3$, radius $R_0$ and surface dif...
In relativistic heavy-ion collisions, the properties of quark-gluon plasma (QGP) and complex dynamics of multi-scale processes in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) are studied by analyzing the final state produced particles in a variety of different ways. Besides the yield ratio of free spectator neutrons produced in ultracentral Zr96+Zr96 to Ru96+Ru96 collisions [Liu et al., Phys. Lett. B 834, 137441 (2022)], we propose that the yield ratio Nn/Np of free spectator neutrons to protons in a single collision system at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider or the CERN Large Hadron Collider can be a m...
We show that the yield ratio of free spectator neutrons produced in high-energy ⁹⁶Zr+⁹⁶Zr to ⁹⁶Ru+⁹⁶Ru collisions is a clean probe of the neutron-skin thickness of colliding nuclei and the slope parameter L of the symmetry energy. The idea is demonstrated based on the proton and neutron density distributions via a state-of-the-art Skyrme-Hartree-Fo...
The STAR isobar data of $^{96}$Ru+$^{96}$Ru and $^{96}$Zr+$^{96}$Zr collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}= 200$ GeV show that ratios of observables ($R_{\mathcal{O}}$) such as the multiplicity distribution, $p(N_{\mathrm{ch}})$, and the harmonic flow, $v_n$, deviate from unity, when presented as a function of centrality, $c$. These deviations have...
We propose that the yield ratio of free spectator neutrons produced in ultracentral relativistic $^{96}$Zr+$^{96}$Zr to $^{96}$Ru+$^{96}$Ru collisions is a robust probe of the neutron-skin thickness $\Delta r_{\mathrm{np}}$ of colliding nuclei and the slope parameter $L$ of symmetry energy. The idea is demonstrated based on the proton and neutron d...

The chiral magnetic effect (CME) refers to charge separation along a strong magnetic field due to imbalanced chirality of quarks in local parity and charge-parity violating domains in quantum chromodynamics. the decay chains $\psi(3686)\to\gamma\eta_{c}(2S)$, $\eta_{c}(2S)\to p\bar{p}$
and $\psi(3686)\to\pi^{0}h_{c}$, $h_{c}\...
Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII
storage ring at center-of-mass energies from 4.009 to 4.420 GeV, $e^{+} e^{-}
\to \gamma X(3872)$ is observed for the first time with a statistical
significance of $6.3\sigma$. The measured mass of X(3872) is ($3871.9\pm
0.7_{\rm stat.}\pm 0.2_{\rm sys.}$) MeV/c$^2$, in a...
The transverse momentum (p_T) spectra and ratios of identified charged
hadrons (\pi^+/-, K^+/-, p, p^bar) produced in sqrt(s_NN)=200 GeV Au+Au and
d+Au collisions are reported in five different centrality classes for each
collision species. The measurements of pions and protons are reported up to
p_T=6 GeV/c (5 GeV/c), and the measurements of kaons...
The energy dependence of the single-transverse-spin asymmetry, A_N, and the
cross section for neutron production at very forward angles were measured in
the PHENIX experiment at RHIC for polarized p+p collisions at sqrt(s)=200 GeV.
The neutrons were observed in forward detectors covering an angular range of up
to 2.2 mrad. We report results for neu...
The PHENIX experiment has measured the production of neutral pions in Au+Au
collisions at sqrt(s_NN)=200 GeV. The new data offer a fourfold increase in
recorded luminosity, providing higher precision and a larger reach in
transverse momentum, p_T, to 20 GeV/c. The production ratio of eta/pi^0 is
0.46+/-0.01(stat)+/-0.05(syst), constant with p_T and...
Measurements of the anisotropy parameter v2 of identified hadrons (pions, kaons, and protons) as a function of centrality, transverse momentum pT, and transverse kinetic energy KET at midrapidity (|η|<0.35) in Au + Au collisions at √sNN=200 GeV are presented. Pions and protons are identified up to pT= 6 GeV/c, and kaons up to pT= 4 GeV/c, by combin...
The differential cross section for the production of direct photons in p+p
collisions at sqrt(s)=200 GeV at midrapidity was measured in the PHENIX
detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Inclusive-direct photons were
measured in the transverse-momentum range from 5.5--25 GeV/c, extending the
range beyond previous measurements. Event struct...
We report on charmonium measurements [J/ψ (1S), ψ′ (2S), and χc (1P)] in p+p collisions at √s=200 GeV. We find that the fraction of J/ψ coming from the feed-down decay of ψ′ and χc in the midrapidity region (|y|<0.35) is 9.6±2.4% and 32±9%, respectively. We also present the pT and rapidity dependencies of the J/ψ yield measured via dielectron decay...
Background: Heavy-flavor production in p+p collisions tests
perturbative-quantum-chromodynamics (pQCD) calculations. Modification of
heavy-flavor production in heavy-ion collisions relative to binary-collision
scaling from p+p results, quantified with the nuclear-modification factor
(R_AA), provides information on both cold- and hot-nuclear-matter...
Measurements of the anisotropy parameter v_2 of identified hadrons (pions,
kaons, and protons) as a function of centrality, transverse momentum p_T, and
transverse kinetic energy KE_T at midrapidity (|\eta|<0.35) in Au+Au collisions
at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV are presented. Pions and protons are identified up to
p_T = 6 GeV/c, and kaons up to p_T = 4...
